One of the Most Profound Things I've Ever Heard

The pathetic rantings of a thirty-something mind
"We on Earth have just awakened to the great oceans of space and time from which we have emerged. We are the legacy of 15 billion years of cosmic evolution. We have a choice: we can enhance life and come to know the universe that made us, or we can squander our 15-billion-year heritage in meaningless self-destruction. What happens in the first second of the next cosmic year depends on what we do, here and now, with our intelligence and knowledge of the cosmos." -Carl Sagan, Cosmos: A Personal Journey, episode 1, The Shores of the Cosmic Ocean
This might be one of my new favorite television series. <3

Wow, that is an awesome quote. I should check some of his work out.
Carl Sagan is and always has been my idol. You should read the book as well after you finish the series - a lot of the work is the same, but there are large chunks that are unique to each. Plus, I love his writing. He is witty yet intelligent, simple but profound, and all around incredible.
