What is staff duty

It is a thing in the Army where you have to basically play the secretary for the entire unit for 24 hours. It is in place so that if emergencies occur there is a reliable line of communications and warm body on the end of the line.

Same thing as CQ duty except CQ stands for Charge of Quarters, and is for a specific barracks where a pair of Soldiers basically stands watch in the barracks to make sure there is a competent sober person on duty in case the place catches on fire or a storm or terrorist attack happens.

CQ for the barracks; Staff Duty for the unit.

Keeps us Soldiers safe and on the straight and narrow. We tend to become slightly hooliganish once the weekend hits and the beer and booze starts flowing. Like frat house parties except we are more professional and usually don't get as stupidly out of control. The MP's get called if it hits frat boy levels. Then you get in A LOT of trouble. So the CQ and Staff Duty help keep us in check.
