The whole Fernando's thing!
Okay, I've mostly been on twitter with this, but I figure there are like 2 people who actually read my journals here and maybe one has 2 nickles to rub together.... SO
kagemushi kagemushi, Chairman of AnthroCon, started a fundraiser to raise some money to help Fernando go home in good shape, since he would be in debt when he closed. You can see the original journal here: http://unclekage.livejournal.com/140100.html
Then furries happened. Now the situation is this: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3376919/]
Fernando has always been good to Anthrocon in Pittsburgh, the place changes its name to FURnandos every year for the week of AC, they put up big fake pawprints on the sidewalk to invite us in, he took a brick to the head one year while defending a pair of fursuiters from a crazed homeless man, he makes "FURNANDO'S ANTHROCON XX" tee shirts and dolls and all kinds of other cool stuff (all licensed officially with Kage and Anthrocon INC) and he's generally a good dude.
The economy has been crap, as we're all aware, blame who you want, I don't care, Anthrocon was the big convention of the year that we keeping Fernando afloat, and the between times got leaner, things are hopefully gonna pick up, but he was out of time, and was going to close his restaurant in a few weeks, he didn't have the operating capitol to keep going until Anthrocon and needed 4 thousand to make it to AC 2012, well, furries answered the call, and raised not 4000, but $9000 so far (I gave as well, but I feel no need to make a point of how much), with $10,000, Fernando will be able to stay open until Anthrocon 2013 at least, and if things get better, maybe for good.
We just need to raise at least another 1000$, and thats literally TWENTY FIVE CENTS from each and every Anthrocon attendee. I'm sure you have an extra dollar at least that you can Paypal to Help.Furnando[at]yahoo.com Uncle Kage
kagemushi is handling everything, and the end date is April 20th, which is the day before a big furmeet at Fernando's which is SUPPOSED to be a goodbye party. Boy is he going to be surprised.
But this is about more than one man and a bunch of furries (Which sounds far, far dirtier typed out than in my head), Imagine what this could mean for Anthrocon and for Furries in general, all that negative press, all the funny looks, all the bullshit, this is a tough time for the United States of America, people are hurting, nobody knows what to do, but here you can save like 10 jobs in a recessed area and a local business as well, this is about Furries, yeah, its about a guy who is our friend, but its also about people coming together in hard times to keep the American dream alive.
Its nice to know that in times when we're dividing ourselves up by Race, Class, Gender and political party, that we can still all get together and say, "Hey, we're all still members of the "DECENT" category..."

Even if its just a dollar, it helps, if its more, it helps a lot, if you can donate 100$, see
2_gryphon and
Toastrabbit about the private room party that you get invited to for donating 100$ or more. I checked with 2, if you donate 200$, 300$, etc, you can bring someone for ever 100$ you donate. Lets get this thing to the finish line folks!

Some of my fondest memories was sharing a meal with
and various others at 'Fur'nandos. I will investigate my next pay packet.
