We're a little (okay, a lot!) late this month, but we're coming in with relaxing spring banner by the amazingly talented songdog. It truly captures the spring spirit! Congrats, Songdog!
A friend of the site and fellow furry, daiquiri, is riding in the Canadian Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. He and thousands of other riders are raising money to help promote awareness of cancer, fund treatment and aid in the research towards finding a cure. A noble cause indeed! FA supported Daiquiri's ride last year, and we're back again once again pledging our support in 2012.
Help out a fellow furry and help fight cancer! Together we, the site and the community, can make a difference!
Want to help Daiquiri's ride? You can donate here: http://www.conquercancer.ca/site/TR/Events/Vancouver2012?px=2644490&pg=personal&fr_id=1413
And as a bonus, donations to help his ride are tax deductable! It's an honorable cause, and we're hoping the community comes together to help raise money for Daiquiri's goal. Cancer affects everyone - friends, family, love one. But we can all band together and help a fellow furry and those we care about in the process.
Don't have money, but want to help Daiquiri all the same? Share the message by Twitter, Facebook and FA! Help promote his ride, and let others know of his honorable ride!

DCA Cures Cancer
Another Cure suppressed because of Greed.
I'd be cool to know, since I always fear you end up not even noticing mine at all.
Gonna try do better next time~
Hope it helps
But it would still be a good idea right?
If we have to stop cancer, we have to:
- Escape from the earth, clothes, food and belongings who contain nuclear isotopes which could cause cancer.
- The sun which irradiates thousands of gamma rays and neutrino's which go through our whole body and break some of the molecules of our cells and stuff.
- Limit our life expectancy to reduce the change of getting cancer.
- 'Control the elements'.
tl;dr: 75~50 years ago people died from most on 'natural cause', but nowadays 'natural cause' is renamed to cancer.
Anyway, good luck~ |=(:3
press ctrl+f and type in 'vitamin D3 against cancer' to see my comment post on how much to use, links to news and documented scientific sites on it, and my own story about loosing a HAND to cancer. All easily preventable.
But I believe that it helps. Sorry to hear about your hand, I trust you are coping well? We have medical methods sufficient enough to give you a new one now, but I gather it's still not easy to go through. I'm in the process of losing my hearing, myself.
I think I'll make a point of spending more time on weekends outdoors by swimming laps in the pool. I work the nightshift and that's also a known carcinogen.
Arh on the loss of hearing, god bless, Coon. <:) Yes on the excessive exposure to sunlight - all a white person needs is fifteen to twenty minutes in natral sunkight outside to load up on what they need of D.
There is, unfortunately, no end-all, but thankfully, some excellent insights into how the body works. Human genome project.. 2,700 binding-sites on the entire human gene spiral that uses the skin's sunlight by-product during cell mitosis for it's healthy replication.
Arh, you remind me of the luxuries of living in the states with the pools, I miss them. xD Enjoy your swims!
I have noo idea how expensive it is or whether or not it would be something you want to do, but I was serious when I said there were possibilities for getting your other hand back. I read some medical articles the other day about how they've found ways around donor rejection to the point that grafts of entire arms are being successful. A guy who lost one of his fingers actually grew it back using this experimental stem-cell powder intended for surgery on internal organs. And if that isn't enough, they finally have fully functional bionics that you can control with your brain (though true dexterity is still a problem).
It's amazing the stuff that's being done. The Human Genome project is certainly a part of it. Maybe some day we'll really come up with a more effective treatment or even a cure for cancer.
I do agree with you though, a daily multivitamin (and additional supplements as reccomended, don't wanna go overboard and kill your kidneys and liver) is a FANTASTIC way to stay much healthier.
I agree, of course, Metontmy, considering that there are so many different types of cancer.
Breast Cancer has been almost eliminated. If its detected before it spreads, it can be cured. More cancers are slowly being brought under control. Even if we cant eradicate it from the person.. Having a year rather than a day left to live is a huge deal to those effected. It gives them time for closure. Do the things they wanted to do, rebuild any bridges burnt, etc etc.

CURSES! FENDER! YOU'VE HURT MY BRAIN!
Did it ever get cured?

Yes there are cures to some cancers, I'm not some idiot who's just like DURR CANCER BAD IMMA GIVE MAH MONIES N TIME.
Cancer killed my 14 year old best friend. People still die from it every day. We don't understand everything about it yet, but we understand a lot now. How? Through the generosity and hard work of others! So, continuing in that path, is why I'm doing this.
I understand the feeling of having someone close to you having cancer. the more people that know about this the better!
They have had succes with them, but not at the limit required for it to be deemed statistically effective and safe. So it won't be sold as a cancer drug in the US or Europe or Japan or Canada until scientifically solid evidence surfaces for it's efficacy.
Cancer research is still a necessary piece regardless because we need to know the exact ,mechanisms of how cancer works still. That way even if a "miracle chemical" did crop up we'd be able to say which cancers it would cure (most types of cancer are RADICALLY different from other types of cancer)
your friendly neighboorhood dragon, Saphire Sawtelle.
Understand?
Which hasn't been proven to be sufficiently good to be a drug to cancer patients yet. (low test subject amount, the material degrades at near body temperature, and no official human trials yet) but it went viral and people jumped alllllll over it. It's a terrible mishmash of group think and some people's need to find a conspiracy in everything.
HOWEVER
A number of cancers, common ones at that, have no cures yet. There is no magical chemical. There is no cancer panacea. Those chemicals that people keep claiming are cures... Like Dca... Debunked. People are using very bad science and people's hate of big pharma to fuel this conspiracy theory. I am not a huge fan of big pharma (having worked for small pharma) but things like the FDA IND guidelines are really good ways to figure out how well a cure actually works. The FDA inspectors are not bought by the big pharma in the slightest, they only turn drugs down for specific reasons (like high toxicity, improperly purified drug, lack of efficacy, etc).
Tl;dr
Don't let pilot drug studies and misguided conspiracy theories keep people from helping others.
21, soon 22 year old furry fighting the "almost done stage" of my treatment
It affects everyone regardless of species, age, sex, fur color, creed, faith, and everything inbetween
they said just to get rid of it would be to check to see if you have the defficiency most find they are,.. and if you are, they say 10.000 IU a day of vitamin D a day will eventually clear it up completely. thats 5 2k pills a day till you get rid of the cancer and making sure your D levells dont drop again
Vitamin D regulates normal cell growth in humans and with the lack of it, the cells mutate and become disfunctional. when you start taking just a little more than your normal dose to cure yourself of the deficiency, it also turns those cells back to normal and cures the cancer in the long run.
Here's an ABC news broadcast on how much sunlight exposure on sun can help prevent and treat cancer...
A news broadcast on vitamin D levels and breast cancer... There are videos on youtube of vitami D3-loaded immune cells EXPLODING cancer cells. This is true of SEVENTEEN TYPES OF CANCER.
Complete information on vitamin D- all the health issues it helps against and is linked to.
SERIOUSLY! I have myself had a hand AMPUTATED due to bone cancer when I was 21, and one of my friends, Raserei, a furry also, has had leukemia and had vitamin D supplementation to prevent the spread and return of his cancer. He got it when he was 19, and lives in washington state.
Also, I got type 1 diabetes when I was 15. Guess what? vitamin D3 majorly prevents type 1 AND type 2 (adult) diabetes.
FUCKING PAY ATTENTION >O<
The BASIC vitamin D supplementation reccomended for teenagers and adults by the leading researchers on vitamin D3 per day is 5,000 IU PER DAY in spring, fall and winter. If you are a computer person, in elementary, middle school, college, or at work inside all day, go for it. MAJOR helper in energy, mental concentration and the like. GET MAGNESIUM TOO. vitamin D3 over 4,000 iu/day makes tons of people show their magnesium deficiencies, because nearly nodofy eats dark green salads every day.
Magnesium and vitamin D3 will help against insomnia, carpal tunnel syndrome (mouse arm), and a huge spread of issues. Get informed, help yourself cheaply, avoid the HUGE cancer bills and issues.
<3 to my furry brothers and sisters, -illys
It does help a lot if used responsibly, especially for blood cancers.
However, it's important to read the actual information from practicing doctors and researchers to get a clear image on the matter.
The major concern about taking vitamin D3 is calcium overload, which happens when vitamin D3 and calcium supplements are taken together. Vitamin D3 ups the intake of calcium, and several other alkiline metals, among which are magnesium, in the gut. If osteoporosis, osteopenia, hardened arteries or other aging-related issues are the problem, one needs vitamin k2, the signal-nutrient which tells calcium which organs to go to and not to go to.
You are correct, Metonymy, that it's important to get blood tests done to reach a proper understanding of one's actual needs.
For clarity, most side-effects that folk experience on D3 is due to magnesium deficiency or calcium overload. The upper limit for vitamin D3 intake has been found in practice to be 40,000 iu/day over at least four months, which is equivalen to 1 gram/day. 2,000 iu is effective for seeing a difference in energy levels and lightening a small depression, 5,000 iu is estimated to be the amount used by an average adult male brain in a day.
Metonomy is correct, these items are measured in micrograms- be informed and work with your GP (general practicioner).
Mainly I am just trying to keep people from buying supplement pills and taking wayyyy too many and poisoning themselves, because that is just bad news bears.

For my cousin who died when i was a infant.
From a Brain tumor.
Good luck and hope it will be enough to end Cancer.
anyone able to help on this? After the whole American Cancer Society thing, (being I live in America) I'm finding myself far more skeptic on things like this.
The cause is good, the people participating are good, but the blind faith put into the people in charge is never good.
