It wasn't like it was unexpected :\ He was a very big animal and lived to over 15, so he outlived his life expectancy by 2 or 3 years.

You made him going with dignity and not pining away. You prevented your best friend of having more pain and torture. You chose the right decisioin. Anyone who loves animals would have done the same. And as you said, he had a good life, sharing precious moments with you.
I fear our 13years old dog (mongrel) dying in some years. So i try to enjoy every available second with her.

I think that I gave him a very good life and he lived a long time. I'm just sad and I miss him.

I can definitely understand that. I cried for a very long time when I lost my Lakota, and I still miss her so much...if she were still alive, tomorrow would be her 19th birthday.

I won't ever stop missing him. Time will heal some of the pain, but it will never make me stop missing him.

Sorry to hear of you loss. This is a decision I've had to make for a number of pets I've had over my life. It's never easy, however it's rarely a wrong decision either.

One thing that I find that does help is getting another pet as soon as possible.

I just hate making the decision because I end up feeling like I killed them, but I knew he was too weak to recover and I didn't want him to suffer.
