Detroit Area BBQ: Lazybones.
When searching for a restaurant, Google reviews often is a quick way to check basic reviews. Lazybones is an example of that being very, very misleading.
My friend Scott received a set of coupons for Lazybones early last year, and when we looked it up it was 5 stars all the way. So we sat around daydreaming about the excellent good we were going to get.
The place was small, with just a few seats, so is mostly a take out joint. Nothing against that, those places can be amazing.
We ordered a giant sampler type deal. When we picked up our order we got several giant bags of food. When we got back to his place, none of it was our order. We had hamburgers, a half chicken, tons of sides, some wings. Right then we were pissed, but since we still hada ton of food and didn't feel like driving all the way back,...we ate it..sort of.
The burgers were big. Sadly that's where the good ends. No flavor, dry, lukewarm. Nasty. 1/10
The wings were chewy, tasted like they'd been sitting out all day. 1/10
The BBQ chicken was... much like the wings. I've had a lot better chickens from the grocery store. 2.5/10
Mac and cheese seemed like it came out of a box. 1/10
The greens...ok somehow they made a fantastic side of greens, little spice, little butter, just how I like em. 8/10.
Overall 1.5/10 We stil joke about this place regularly. The best part is as we drove by another time we say them unloading a truck full of GFS boxes...that explains a bit.
And their sauce! It tasted like ketchup mixed with black pepper and some vinegar
Here's the best part though. I mentioned we discovered the Union Woodshop at Ferndales BBQ festival...Lazybones was there as well. We watched their booth, in the several hours we were there.. we saw... ZERO people go to it. Nobody. Other places had half hour lines for a taste. Lazybones not a person. If there was ever a restaurant that falsified online reviews I think we found em.
Don't waste your money.
