Sleep therapy?

General
So lately
and I have been having a lot of trouble sleeping.
He can't stay asleep; he wakes up super early and can't fall back asleep at all, and gets random panicky urges to check the time every time he gets close to dozing back off. I fall asleep, but I sleep fitfully, waking up for ten-to-thirty minute intervals every hour or two all night, and have horrible nightmares the little bit of time I manage to stay asleep.
We're not sure why this is happening. Maybe just stress, maybe noise from our roommate's computer gaming and skype calls (he stays up a lot later than us), maybe our new bed, maybe a combination of all three or something completely unrelated.
We've tried going to bed earlier and later. We're considering putting on some kind of soothing noise before falling asleep using his laptop.
Anybody have any other tricks or tips on how to get to sleep and stay asleep? x.x Experience as a couple is a huge bonus.
Thanks~

I'd also recommend taking a tylenol PM about one and a half hours before you want to sleep for the first two days to get your rhythm back.
I haven't heard of pink noise, I'll need to check that out. Thanks.
And if that fails, i vote night light <3
Okay, seriously, um, for me it was a light source or sound driving me crazy, blinders might work, thingies that cover your eyes, and yes, agreeing with earlier comment, smell therapy, relaxes so much better~ Lavender is <3
I've been using this as of late. Results may vary :3
