Yes. Those icky, naughty, delusional substances that only bad, evil, and worthless layabouts do because.. well.. BECAUSE. >:C
get with the program!
..
In all seriousness, I am curious on the opinions you hold regarding Marijuana, Mushrooms, Cocaine, ect. You can post about
whatever/whichever ones you so choose, but always remember it's an opinion! People have them. :D
What do you think about them? Any personal experiences that are good or bad? Should certain drugs be legal or should they
all be outlawed forever and kept away in dark cellars? Is the manufacture and distribution by a government or regulated individual
a safer alternative then letting kingpins kill each-other in gang wars over cut and unsafe loot?
I ask since I have.. well.. many people in my life who do/are/will be affected by all sorts of drugs. From kids who's parents are
heroine and meth addicts to people who just toke up MJ on the occasion. I'm curious what your outside perspective is.

Mushrooms: Tried once. It was one of the most fun experiences I've ever had.
Cocaine: Tried once. Did nothing that a strong cup of coffee wouldn't do. Not worth the trouble.
LSD: Did twice. It was a hell of a fun ride, but I don't think I'd enjoy it now.
I've always thought that people should be free to ingest whatever substances they choose. They should also not expect to be bailed out if adverse consequences result.
I do agree though, people shouldn't ever feel it's anyone else fault they got caught doing it / did stupid stuff and are in trouble. Just
cus they were having a crazy trip doesn't negate the fact they fucked up.
Ultimately, its the user who makes drugs look bad. If they're controlled and do it in a responsible manner, more power to them. The stupid ones who put others in danger are the ones who make things look bad.
lol but srsly
The fact of the matter is that the war on drugs is a failure. Even most politicians, Obama and Romney included, agree. Personally, I think that making any drug illegal just makes it more of a problem, as it draws more attention to it as something naughty and fun in the eyes of some youth, or anyone for that matter. I think that all drugs should be legalized, because countries that don't care about drug prevention have less of a problem than we do. Regardless of legalization, there's a lot that needs to be worked on as far as the education of drugs goes. There's too many lies and bad information in drug education today, when it's better and safer to educate youth on the correct information about drugs. Yes, drugs are bad. We get it. But WHY? I like to smoke weed, but I think if it were fully legalized, there should be a legal age for it, like tobacco or booze. Unless, of course, it's proven for medical use. The reason booze is at 21 is because a person's mind isn't done developing until the early to mid 20's. Likewise, marijuana is a mind-altering 'substance' and could affect the brain's development. Of course, I think there should be some research done on minors and weed because in my case, I think it helped my brain develop better as a teen. I instantly started being less socially awkward after I started smoking weed. However, like anything concerning weed, it depends on the person.
As for other drugs, I'm personally comfortable being around shrooms or other natural stuff. But being around anything else makes me uncomfortable. Needles especially, partially due to my fear of needles, and the other part being that those types of drugs really fuck people up, from what I've seen. I still think they should be legalized with the rest of the drugs, but that's not only due to lowering the attraction to it, but also for national costs. The war on drugs is expensive as fuck, and as most of the world agrees, is a failure.
On the other hand, mostly harmless isn't the same thing as entirely harmless, and every drug has it's risks. And, as we all know, some people are able to use drugs moderately, while other people cannot.
Of course, saying that something SHOULD be legal, isn't the same thing as saying that it IS legal, whether that's just or not. And in the one-strike country that we now live in, that's a risk to be considered, as well...
So, yea... just a few thoughts, I guess, speaking as someone without any personal knowledge on the subject. ;)
But my opinion is that some drugs are more dangerous than others, and the ones that are more dangerous should be illegal, and most of them are. I personally think that tobacco should be illegal, while marijuana should be legal. I still wouldn't use it, but it makes no sense for something so highly addictive and with such a high cancer risk to be legal while something nonaddictive with low cancer risk and actual medicinal value should be illegal. Pot is about as dangerous as alcohol, from what I can see, and that's legal.
Alcohol can cause problems too, but they're the sort of problems that arise when somebody lets anything get out of control, letting something become a crutch, a substitute for solving a real problem. Depressants that aren't physically addictive are the sort of thing that can be used responsibly if people are careful.
But drugs like heroin, cocaine, or crystal meth, that can be physically addictive and can cause real health problems ... I have no problem with their being illegal. However, although the dealers should be punished, society should treat the users of such drugs with helping them break free as the goal. These are things that can destroy even otherwise responsible people once they get a foothold.
I think I'd put hallucinogens in with other substances that aren't physically addictive, as long as they don't cause long-term health problems. I think LSD can have long-term effects, can't it? I'm not sure about mescaline or psilocybin. But if they can be used in moderation and under controlled conditions by a responsible adult without any ill effects, I don't see the problem.
In many cases, I think that use should be legal and abuse illegal. But in the case of drugs that get you hooked and wreck your body, those are the things whose dealers should be thrown in jail and whose users should be helped.
That is not to say that many non-drugs become crutches too through psychologically addictive behaviors. People start relying on these things to control emotions, particularly anger and depression, and in some cases happiness, as we are inherently emotional beings driven away from negative emotions to positive ones.
I've come to know many people who do use MJ for all sorts of reasons, a fair number with licenses for medical use due to severe chronic pain, including two cases of fibromyalgia. These I understand and am certainly no expert to be contradicting the doctors who prescribed them. Every time I hear of somebody, particularly some young teenage kid toking up because they were depressed - it pisses me off.
While there's nowhere near enough research on psychologically addictive mechanisms and emotional response to drugs, both cigarettes and marijuana have been commonplace enough to give me a very plain sighted view of how emotional tolerance breaks down overtime through repeated use of a crutch, especially ones with chemical components. Stress and cigarettes is the easy example, watch someone grow up starting to smoke heavily, and how they learn to light up every time they get stressed, slowly getting worse and worse at handling that stress without a cigarette. They can become downright MEAN without it.
