Posting my art to other websites without my permission
13 years ago
Most people know I have a pretty easy going nature about how my art gets distributed. If you want to save it to your personal collection, then go ahead. If you wanna share it with a friend who has a similar interest, then, by all means, send him the file. If you even wanna post it to Fchan, then okay. Just please be sure to include a source link back here if you do.
The thing about the above mentioned distribution methods, however, is that they aren't hosted to someone else's website. Fchan doesn't keep the images available forever. Eventually, the threads in which the images were shared will fall off their listings. What I dislike is having my images on someone else's website entirely; something permanent that doesn't eventually get kicked out by newer stuff. I do not approve of this. I do not grant permission for this (unless YOU paid for the image, and in that case, it's YOURS to do with as you please to). I do not in any way support this!
I have found some of my REALLY old art on a furry and fantasy variety art site not long ago. The site appears to be all in French, and the people who make comments and such speak the same language. What really frustrates me about that particular page is that no one even gives a source link. The image is just posted, and from what I was able to translate from the comments, people believe the website owner is the rightful copyright holder and creator of all the images posted on that website. I don't find that acceptable in any way.
I was recently made aware that several of my images were posted to the Rule 34 webpage. I DO NOT, in any way, shape, or form appreciate what was done with that. I don't support that website, and I frankly don't believe my artwork properly belongs to such a place. The site seems to strongly imply that it's meant for pornography, and the images posted did not fit that description. One of them was an anthro My Little Pony I drew all the way back in 2006 that has no visible genitalia and is meant only to be mildly sexy, not pornographic. The other was a commission I did for a friend of mine of Gadget from Rescue Rangers. The picture is a suggestive nude pinup, by his request. I feel the image is too tame for what they seem to imply their page is about. I also shook my head at the whining about the watermark on an image that was bought and paid for by someone else. I get a little sick of seeing people do this with my artwork. If it's got a strong watermark on it, there's a damn good reason for it, and obviously they've figured that out! Quit your bitchin'! You want a clean, unmarked version? Commission me, then!
The only saving grace of that website is that they offer source links to the original images. However, the site seems constructed like your average comment-based gallery system such as with Deviant Art and Fur Affinity. So, pretty much any moron can come along and post whatever.
If you happen to be someone who has taken my artwork and posted it to a site like I mentioned here, please discontinue such actions in the future. I really don't appreciate it. I'm happy you like what I do, and I don't mind you sharing it, but not in THAT form. Please ask me permission before posting my artwork to permanently hosted sites like Rule 34. I don't want my work there. I don't want to be associated with them. I don't want to be associated with any other websites like that. I hope you'll understand and know you CAN come and ask me if it's okay to share something if you're not sure. But, please, don't just assume it's okay and do it. That's really disrespectful of me and any other artist that this has been done to.
