Stragedy!

So...I have this monumentally foolish idea about my health. It's crazy and it's probably doomed to failure and ridicule...but here it is: I think I'm going to try and give up sugar.
I know! It's crazy insane! But frankly, I'm tired of feeling tired and overweight and having medical problems, etc, etc... If I give up sugar...and ultimately (dare I say it?) caffeine!!!!, I think I would do better in my life.
I have a dream I gave up on years back and that was to be able to wear my absolute favorite garment again. It's a tai chi uniform shirt I got back in '86 I think. It hasn't fit me in probably 15 or 17 years...but it still hangs in my closet, waiting for me to finally abandon my life of gluttony and become healthy and vigorous (I hope) again! Sugar and caffeine are probably the two main poisons in my life...I overindulge in them freely and have been paying the price for it since I turned 30 and my body gave up any pretense of youth!
My chief worry...that I'm such a slave to those two evils that I won't be able to adhere to this resolution even through the weekend!
*sigh* The flesh is weak...and I have a LOT of it!

Giving up caffeine is tough: as with all addictions, it seems fine at first but it's all too easy to fall off the wagon. It's worth it though!
Even trying to get away from processed sugar will be extremely hard.
If you're looking to loose some weight I would recommend doing an aerobic type workout daily or every other day for about 45-60mins a day. Running is an extremely excellent workout for being something so simple. Just make sure you keep at it on a consistent basis.
If you're interested in building muscle you'll probably end up putting on some fat as well since you require more energy to build up the muscle and to loose fat you require to eat less energy. (calories) But, muscle requires more energy that fat to sustain its self so having more muscle will in turn burn more calories on a regular basis. (Don't expect anything drastic tho.)
Lots of people say this but picking up a martial art form is an excellent way to lose weight. The results and benefits of martial arts are amazing.
Now I would try and cut diet soda's out as well. Or a least cut them back to about one a day or one every other day. Aspartame isn't that good for you just like sugar. I gave up soda and other sugary drinks about a year or more go. And that alone makes a big difference. I do drink a diet soda every now and then however. (just bought one today actually lol) Now, if you're a cereal eater like me in the morning I would recommend getting the cereal with the least amount of sugar in it. Such as toasted rice cereal or something. Also, if you need to have milk get fat free milk. Not only is it cheaper but it has not fat in it. Don't drink the milk afterwards either! Just put enough milk in your cereal to get it wet and soften it.
If you don't think you'll stick to your resolution just think about what will happen to you if you don't stick to it. And then tell yourself you have to do it. NO EXCUSES!
One more thing. Always stretch before and after a workout.
Deep down, I want to be a vegan(hard-core vegetarian, for those who are wondering). That may happen one day, but for now I'm addicted to stuff that would make Scott Adams puke. I should try his Dilburritos sometime.
As for the exercise another poster has mentioned- EASE INTO IT. Seriously. Nothing is worse for your knees than running, so try to find a cardio-effect exercise that's low-impact. If you're anything like myself, with the extra weight on your bod, your knees are taking enough strain as it is, seriously. Swimming is very good for this. You work a lot of the body's muscles (almost all of them in tandem) and it's not so nasty to the joints.
If you're up to it, try biking to work (if you don't live insanely far from your job, that is)- I bike most days to my job, five miles away. Damn good workout. When I started, it took me over 45 minutes to get there, now it takes me 30...
I'm still heavy, but I'm in better shape, heart-wise, than I've been in a decade. It's not the fat that's the problem, it's the lack of physical activity. I started slow, and I'm gaining ground on the extra mass. You go, man! And have fun doing it!
But don't worry about me trying to run...I can barely walk half the time. :P
My average work day:
Breakfast
2 bananas = about 80 calories each
1 20 oz mt dew = oh about 320 calories (seriously I need the real stuff in the morning)
Lunch
2 weight watchers dinners at 140 calories each = 280
1 diet soda of any kind
1 pack of small cookies = about 200 calories
Dinner
Pretty much anything I could scavenge around the house that was low in calories.
But I know u wanna cut out your sugars but If u can just switch to diet sodas that will help u a lot, considering I used to drink about 3 2 ltrs of dew a day
after the 17 i lost intially i have stagnated between 296 and 300.4 my roommate has lost about fifty pounds. i think it is just his brother's deit is why. it only works on family members. I'd go buy another gi. its quicker, then do exercise to equal out the way you eat now, like all that tai kwando warm up stuff. i can't seem to lose weight unless i go do something drastic. you are probably the same.
Oh wait...I was supposed to introduce myself by my first name before I went off, wasn't I?

Sorry it had to be me to tell you, but is for your own good.
Have another Snickers.
Give up sugar and starches. Best of all, stop eating anything that raises your blood sugar more than sucrose, which is a hell of a lot of things. This book is scientifically sound. You can lose lots of fat (and lower your LDL cholesterol and triglycerides) without exercise, hunger, or counting calories:

I approve of this book, and I'm a biomedical research scientist who has lost over 30 pounds this way!
See you get your sugar fix and spend 2 hrs on the toilet
