the only ones that I do participate are the ones that allows anyone to join without making us post an advertisement or watch them.

Yeah, I'm with you there, though I must admit I'm guilty of posting a few, just to spread the contest.

Im the same way, i dont do them that much unless the rewards are worth it enough. I have enough people that like reading my journals without me doing those kinds of contests, what happened to just simple post a comment in the journal to automatically be entered in a raffle journals?

Well, to be fair, while there do exist those sort of more altruistic contests, most contests in the world involve some sort of benefit for the person holding them. Often it's in the form of buying a raffle ticket or a publication, but that's a bit difficult logistically on FA, so I guess people tend to try to spread awareness, or sometimes get artwork or stories in return.

I don't really think it's a bad thing... it's pretty one-sided in that usually the person hosting the contest will see much more benefit than even the winner, let alone all the non-winners, but that tends to be fairly obvious and there's still a rather fair and equitable thing - otherwise people wouldn't really enter to begin with.

But I can see how "Promote me in your journal!" can seem like a very artificial way to gain popularity and.. I guess I don't like to play along. If I recommend someone it's because I want to, not because I have a chance to get something free out of it. It kind of feels like being bought off (only with a very small chance of actually getting the benefit).

It wouldnt be a bad thing honestly if it was done just a bit less frequently. The problem now is everyone does them.

I can see how that would be frustrating. Really, I'm just playing Devil's Advocate a bit by saying that it's fairly common for contests to have some large benefit for the person hosting them. It still can be annoying to see journal after journal along those lines, of course.

I don't aprove of this spam-a-lot... but the internet is just such a vast space that it is almost impossible not not to be found. Of course good come, good goes around, but I think you can compare it with the television series. Awesome shows, and I mean really awesome, are often only 1 - 2 seasons long... And then you got Jersey shore (6 seasons).

Don't get me wrong, I'm getting pissed off of them, too, (spammin') but I think they should be still able to present their 'advertisement' somewhere where it's orginized. And journals is not one of those places.

I just delete those. Also delete the HEY I'M going to (insert con here) journals.

I tend to ignore them too. I do feel like they absolutely have the right to participate in those types of raffles, but that doesn't mean I like it. So yeah, all I can really do is just ignore what I don't like...and I guess just post a minor journal to share my feelings. XD

I have been guilty once or twice of doing those "re-post this journal and post in mine to be entered for art!" Thinking about it, yeah its silly. But I have bigger wannabee popufur fish to fry, and there are a LOT of em hahaha.

They are annoying, but I can understand it. Artists gain recognition by word of mouth. A lot of artists live off their art, so putting time aside to give away free art for something like that is like paying for advertising.

I don't really look at journals often, so I can't say I'm particularly affected.

Yeah, i understand it too! And I'm hardly affected as well. Just an annoyance!
