I remember watching this when it was on

I loved his specials when I was a kid. Almost got to meet him, actually; he starred in an arcade game the company my dad worked for was developing. I don't think it saw a wide release, but it was pretty fun.

Did it involve the sledge-o-matic?

I think there were a few clips of it, but it was a light gun game(aforementioned company made police training simulators then moved onto light gun action games) in which you'd shoot various fruit, watermelons(naturally) and other objects. I forget most of the details as it's been nearly 20 years since that game was under development.
