Something on my mind and room for AC found.
First off let me Thank everyone who did ask around for a room for me. One has been located and set up. Thank you all again.
Now onto what is the real topic.
Something actually got me thinking about this community a bit more. Not FA, but furries in general.
Someone I know posted up a video on Youtube that is of her Kigurumi character that is a Panda. She wearing a black and white zentai like suit that has no fur. The mask itself is is very panda looking. Yet some little jerk-off thought it would be smart to complain about how the word "fursuit" and "furry" should of been removed from the tags as it was not how most of us picture a fursuit.
I can understand the reasoning to a degree, but in the end I keep questioning "why?"
Why does it matter if the suit actually has fur or not. Some people don't like a traditional fursuit but to me anything that is a suit of a furry characters can be labeled as a fursuit. Who cares if it doesn't have the fake fur? Seriously. This is how she wants to express herself and we should respect that.
I guess I am looking for more input though. What do you all consider to be a "fursuit"? Does it need fur? Please tell me your thoughts on this subject.

Honestly I think its splitting the hair VERY finely. There are plenty of spandex based suits out there, because not everyone wants fur. Asking what makes a "fursuit" a fursuit is like ask what makes a goth. Its a long drawn out discussion with no real wrong or right answer. Of course you know me I really don't care what the petty really think.
Also congrats on the room. >^.^< Hopefully will get to see you next year, but there are a lot of conditions in going now. :P
I would say tagging it "kig" and "furry" is right, but "fursuit" is somewhat misleading.
Im sure you know the two i speak of bud. To me if its a furry character like a panda or something it should be able to count as a
fursuit regardless of being a kig mask and zentai or the typical fursuit type.
A fursuit is a costume worn by a furry that includes a head and suit that covers the entire body.
For example, if you're cosplaying a character that has fur, it's not "fursuiting". If you're a furry wearing a wolfhead, paws and a tail with street cltohes and shoes, you're "fursuiting". If you're not furry, but like to wear some sort of animal costume, you should probably be a furry, sign on with some sports team... or seek mental help. Fursuiting was originally called "zooting" and suits were "zoots", but *murrpurr* fursuits rolls off the tongue better and was more widely adopted.
In the end, the definition of what kind of costuming being done is ultimately defined by the person doing it. You can't argue with that. You can judge people on the composition of their suit tho. Fursuiting is way to broad a costuming type to pin down to one style.
Def is flexible to include fur-curious people, obviously.
But I (accidentally) coined the term fursuit back in 1993, and we used it on the fursuit-list for several years before I heard the term "zoot" in the fandom (about 1995 or so). Zoot was novel, but redundant and it didn't gain widespread use.
Who cares? the whole point is attempt to define something to the best of one's abilities - you can call any animal costume a fursuit if you want, it does not matter, and people that have a problem with that are really taking 'anal-retentive' too far. It's all loosely defined anyway, so,*shrugs*
