Four more songs to do, and my first chiptune album is done!!
So, if you haven't been following my music much, I've been working on a mock Megaman chiptune soundtrack. :D I've got 7 of the 8 robots done (Casino Man is giving me a lot of trouble, so I skipped it for now until some inspiration slaps me) and one of the four Dr. Wily stages are done. :0
I do plan on placing this album on Bandcamp for donation downloads (Lord knows I need the money :<) But I should probably work on some cover art.
So....if you don't listen to my music, well...you should! I still struggle a bit with the whole Art>music and comments ratio, but I'm getting better about not letting it affect me, since I'm now living in a house that is really good about reinforcing me that I'm not a bad composer just because people don't reply to my submissions :3
Heh, I'll stop blabbering now :p

Ooh, Casino Man's giving you some trouble, eh? :( Do you have anything down yet? Like something to go off of? Or is it a blank canvas?

I do, but my problem is that I want something jazzy and I only have four channels to work with. Walking bass and swinging hi hat isnt a problem, but I'm having problems trying to create the jazz harmonies I want with only a melody and a harmony.

Oh, wow. x.x; Yeah that sounds frustrating at best, maddening at worst. ._. I have no idea how composers pulled this stuff off back in the day. xD I hope you can find something that works. I bet the bass and hi-hats sound awesome, at least! :D Either way, I'm lookin' forward to what you come out with, and hope that it stops giving you s'much trouble!

IANAM, but it seems to me that you once you've established the rhythm with the hi-hat for a while, you can drop it out in favor of another instrument.

Awesome news. And as for your jazz problem, when it comes to chiptunes, less is sometimes more. I'd try using a lot of 7th 3rds and 5ths as a kind of two key chord created by the two channels you assign, Maybe even drop the harmonies out until a chorus etc. I guess for a casino style you're kind of leaning to a big band sound? I'd try to stay more minimalistic jazz. Hope this helps! Best of luck

I actually went and listened to a lot of the Chip and Dale NES sound track since like half of that game is pretty jazzy to get some inspiration. I think I'm gonna scrap what I've got and start over ._.
