That unused space is where the ads are, for those who aren't blocking ads. Toggle your ad-blocking to see. They could probably make the banner a little wider, but it would collide with the ads for people with smaller screen resolutions. Ideally, they should increase the banner width by about 20 percent, then they should read the width of a user's browser window, and adjust the number of displayed ads according to what they have room for. Someone with an 800x600 display might see just one ad on the banner line, while someone with a 1920x1080 display might see three of four ads there. Two ads happen to fit on my 1280x768 display, along with the banner, with around 200 pixels to spare on the banner line. I normally leave my ads blocked though, so I'm seeing the large empty space.

The only thing that I don't like is that it is now much harder for me to read the part of the header where it says, "### messages (##S, ##J, #F, #C)". That used to be dark text on a light background, but now it is dark text on a dark background. That makes it less accessible for people with low vision.

Ahh, right. I keep forgetting I'm using ad-block. ^^; I agree with your suggestion, though, to have an option to select different displays. Mine is about the same size as yours, so it'd be similar to that.

Yeah, it looks fine to me, but I do think it'd look better if the message text was white instead of light gray.

This is better than the beta at least. I tried to use the pull-down menus in the beta, and I couldn't read the menu items because of the transparent background. I submitted a trouble ticket, explaining that I had low vision, and that the transparency was a problem. I see that they fixed that.

It is white text on a dark background for me o.o maybe it is a setting on your side?

I see white text on dark gray on the, "User Page Journals Gallery Scraps Favorites Send Note", line. That's fairly easy to see. It's the new, "Browse Search Submit ▼Community ▼Support ~FoxWolfie ▼My FA", line that has the dark on dark text. Switching to FA's dark background theme, fixes the top line, but makes the rest of the site very hard for me to read. Right now, everything looks perfectly readable, except for that top menu line, using FA's light background theme.

I can live with it as is, as I will get used to where things moved. or I might write a greasemonkey script to change the background on that line match the rest of FA's light background theme.

oh! so it is the light theme XD i didnt even know FA had one x3 i just have the default theme I think. Hopefully they can fix it :(

I started using the light theme back in 2006, and almost forgot about the dark one. It would be neat if they have a dozen or so themes to choose from. People could have pink, green or even black for the goth crowd! Getting all the colors right for all the themes would be tricky, but the possibilities could be nice.

If it wouldn't create lag on the servers, it could be that people could "install" themes like how people install themes for journals on dA via a submission catagory for themes x3

I was thinking something simple like basic color definitions, which would be fast. I know that most sites use themes to mean background images, skinning and all sorts of things, that often slow a site down.
