I use chrome because it goes faster on my shitty connection. I also use opera because I can block out any sort of flash movies so that they don't use up all of my download space.

I like firefox, but it has a lot of problems on slow connection.

I can see why people would use IE, but it does have a lot of problems; apparently, it's even hazardous to computers because it's so ingrained in them.

That's a bit of a common fallacy and one of the big Pro firefox arguments. Which is the same argument mac users give to linux/windows users.

All the same, I do like firefox better than IE; no offence to anyone who likes using anything else over Firefox, but I think it is better. I like how I can recall a closed page and not have to re-input all the text I wrote on it.

To be fair, IE does have a few security problems. -Most- of these are gone as of 9, but still, Firefox or Chrome is what most web designers assume people will be using.

These are the only known issues with IE and the new site. It's not FA so much as IE forcing Compatibility Mode on people.

It still doesn't change the fact that said drop down menu design was just further breaking what was fine before. Honestly the new design is needlessly complicated compared to the old system, where I can just click "control panel" and have immediate access to all my options. Now I have to go through a bunch of dropdown menus every time I want to do something.

Furthermore this update, like the last two updates, only served to further break things for those of us running lower end machines like myself, which is, to be honest pretty rude and not very much with your users in mind. You guys make money from advertisement right? And because of that you need users on your site to see those ads, you guys keep pushing us away and that is really not helping you out even in the slightest... v-v;

There are those of us who liked things the way they were because they worked.
They worked, they were efficient and they were simple.

I honestly believe that you guys made a mistake with the new layout.

That is my honest opinion.

I know it won't change your mind, but please consider that maybe asking your users what they "like" and "dislike" about the site, and acting upon those responses might be a good plan that will make everyone happy. Instead of trigger happy banning everyone who has an opinion or disagrees at all with you guys.

We honestly love the site, if we didn't we wouldn't be here. We want to be treated with a modicum of respect. That's all we ask.

I apologize if I have offended you or any of your staff now, or in the past. But really, please just this once throw us a bone when it comes to the site...? Please?

Lastly, IE has never forced compatibility mode on anyone as far as I know v-v; Its never happened to me and in fact when you guys updated the site a year or so ago, maybe more, I had to start using Compatibility mode to even be able to use the site because the site needed those older functions to work properly.

In short... give us back our old control panel please? I'll look past the browser trouble without complaint. This new layout is hated nearly sitewide and it's really no surprise.

The reasons for the layout were to streamline the interface. The way the template system works is there are two templates. The general template and the "Control Panel" template, and they both overlapped awkward and inefficiently across the pages of the site. I know, it will take a bit of getting used to, but the reason we changed it was to give the site a unified interface where every function is accessible from all pages and all sections.

That said, we've received some solid feedback to point us to revising the system better (including the drop downs) which we'll be investigating sometime in June, along with some other improvements to the interface and better consistency for pages and formatting.

The new UI also removes about 150 pixels of wasted vertical space and makes the site more compact. That was part of the goal. This is one step towards some major upcoming changes.

Really, it to me doesn't streamline anything. Its like the difference between the usable Darnified UI interface from Oblivion. The mod. That's what the original FA was to me.
If you've ever played the "streamlined" vanilla version of the game, that's what the new FA is to me. Yeah it's streamlined. In all the wrong ways.

Streamlining something is to make it more efficient... Not take away from it.

The old buttons were never awkward, and never inefficient. They were useful, simple, and very accessible.

Either way. Some of us still like the old FA, a very large amount of us as I'm sure you've noticed.

IF possible. It would be nice to have an option to go to the old non-wishy washy drop down bard free (nearly) version.

You've obviously never tried to code webpages to work properly in IE. 8 and 9 are far more standards-compliant, and generally respect what I've done, but IE7 is a pain. A big problem is that IE's implementation of CSS tends to be different from what it should be.

I don't like IE myself, but I use it occasionally (e.g. because Firefox isn't installed). Also, because my main OS is Ubuntu, IE is a not an option anyway.

Also, I like the way FA has been developed. I know other people won't, and others will be ambivalent about it.

I suppose you're right about the coding, I shouldn't be faulting them on the IE stuff. Really, I do know its a lot harder to make your website universally acceptable than it may sound.

I guess I have always just liked my IE best for its GUI and efficiency.

I really, honestly can't stand what's happened to the site in recent times and this latest update really was beyond ridiculous.

I guess I'm just easily adaptable. I didn't like what Vista did with the Start Menu, but I got used to it, and it does have its good points. Windows 8, however, is rather radical due to its design for tablets. I've been using the preview for a while, and I think I can say that I like it so far, though a few features, such as 'apps' are a bit annoying because they require a Windows Live account (which I have, but I'm not going to use it for Windows unless I have to). IE10 (for the desktop) doesn't look much different from previous versions, but the tablet view of it is /very/ different.

If you like it, you like it; if you don't, you don't.

A major sticking point with 8 is that tablets will run the RT version, which can't run x86/x64 applications; they have to be specifically written for the tablet OS. Also, if you don't know already, DVD playback will only be available to those who shell out for Windows 8 Pro/Enterprise; even then you'd have to buy the Media Centre add-on, I believe. I use VLC for DVD playback, so it's not really an issue.

MS won't be providing the codecs needed; third-party players are fine, as they provide their own codecs, but MS are saving themselves money by not including them with Windows, as even a few dollars per codec license adds up to a large chunk of cash over millions of copies.

Personally, VLC's codecs are better than Microsoft's: I played a video in Media Player recently, and thought it looked really jagged; I played it in VLC and compared them side by side, and VLC's output was very smooth.

I honestly really dont care either way as long as everything works.
