Im not a good artist but I try. But I have people Obsessed over my Fursona. Thats Why I have mixed him up to be able to change species and also change Gender too.

Only people to get obsessed over one of my characters are people whose opinions don't really matter that much to me to affect how I feel about my own characters. *shrug*

I can get what you're saying. I've abandoned whole persona's in the past, and a year or two later picked them up again, after certain people forgot about that persona. That hasn't really happened with this one, which I really want to keep, but some of that might be that I outright ignore anyone who leaves comments I find uninteresting, and shoot down anyone that makes comments that I dislike.

For instance, "I like your character's feet. *awkward sniffing roleplay*" gets the shit ignored out of it.
"I can totally imagine my character sticking his dick into your character!" gets something along the lines of "I think she might just stab you instead."

I do want people like my character, being the attention whore that I am, but shit... lines must be maintained.

That actually works a lot more often than people seem to expect.

You just don't hear about it much because it's rare that anyone tries that approach short of 'omg you sick freak go die!!!!'


I'm all for respecting lines too, but when you're posting porn (or erotica), some stiff things and fluids tend to go with the territory. Yes, some people lack the social sense to know inherently that not everyone wants to HEAR about their fan's boner even if they did do something that tends to cause them. But most of those people are capable of keeping it to themselves if they're told it's unwelcome in a civil manner.

Not to mention the aggrivating and annoying comments of 'you should draw our characters together!' or 'wow, we're both wolves! ur char is sooooo hot! we should draw them having sex!!!'
those are the ones that get me.

either way, there should be some respect for the integrity of characters.

Hell, the idea of integrity is whole levels of philosophy beyond my issue with it. Don't put things in the comments that would not be kosher in even slightly mixed company. If you were with a casual acquaintance and and you said things like you wanted to sniff some other person's feet, or eat their ass, or that said acquaintance should hook you two up for some fucking, they wouldn't be talking to you much longer.

I am a casual acquaintance at best to my commenters. What sexual practices, especially odd practices, you wish to perform with persons real or imagined is really close to the top of my list of things I don't want a person to say. Think it all you want, but use your inside voice. Your inside-your-own-head voice, that is.

Blah...I know it's EXCEEDINGLY shallow of me, but I can't help but feel the desire to have hordes of fans for my work...and I can neither satiate this desire (since no one looks at my work anyway), nor do I know how to get rid of it...and I detest myself for even feeling it.

I've had awesome fans-- in fact I would say like 99% of the ones I have encountered are generally awesome people and nice.

But that 1% is fulla art theives, tracers, psychotically obsessed nuisences and-- I kid you not, identity theives.

I had some dude IM me a year or so back like he was an old friend of mine, but I'd never heard of him.

It seems he had an interenet relationship with someone pretending to be me for like 6 months or so, and was contacting his 'ex boyfriend, Jax', to catch up on old times.

But as for getting fans, I think it's tricky for some people, especially in the furry fandom as it is such an artist-based fandom. There are a LOT of artists, and a lot of AMAZING ones, so a lot of other artists get overlooked. I've been drawing since I was three, posting art on the net for 12, and posting among the furry fandom for like.. half that.

Yeah, I can't draw. I write music and stories, which get significantly less attention....and the music I write isn't techno/eletronica stuff, so it gets overlooked even more.

Oh yeah, that's even trickier then. Furry is based mostly around drawn art, so I can imagine music and writing would be overlooked.

That about nicely corresponds to the statistic that 1 to 2 percent of humans are clinically sociopathic.

I know what your talking about there, I wanted to stop drawing a character (Chum) but he was too popular, oh well, you can't just drop a character like that.

Or if you do you end up getting an angry mob. I've done it with one or two of my chars for the reasons posted in this journal, and man if the fans don't take up pitchforks and torches over it sometimes.

I mean, I love drawing and showing my stuff to people who enjoy and appreciate it, but in the end, I think I'm drawing for myself. Unless it's a commission of course, but you know what I mean!

This is one of the reasons why i like not being a popular artist. But in the end you got to draw for yourself otherwise it never comes out right..

I think I know what character your talking about, I remember him from years ago when I first started watching you. He had blue ears and was pretty damn good looking. The names on the tip of my tongue....

Anyway, it is really said to see a few people completely ruin it for an artist. Especially when its your own creation. My characters are all really important to me as I'm sure they are to you, but I can understand how grating it must be with a bunch of people obsess over them. It would ruin it for me too :

I've been lucky so far that most of the "fans" of my characters have been able to separate the fantasy from reality. One of my characters seems to have won the worship of one individual, but I can't say that said individual is at the level where I'm annoyed or wanting to remove the character from future plans of being drawn yet.

One thing that bothers me though is that when one of my characters does anything sexual with someone else's character, they treat it as if they've scored with me in real life.

Zelwulf and Jax were the first two characters of yours that I saw back in 2003, Zelwulf being the one that caught my eye. I drew fanart of both characters, but I kinda left it at that. I don't look at the drawings every single day or create lovers for them :P

I guess one thing I could suggest is to have a heart to heart with the person with the obsession and ask them to tone it down. If they can't control themselves or respect your wishes as the owner of the character, then make it clear you'll block all ways for them to contact you. I'd hate to see you stop drawing a character all together because there are far more who would be denied seeing him or her.

Hopefully everything works out.

But as for this person-- they don't speak english. I've tried telling them to chill out in english and thier own language a hundred million times. I've had other people, people who speak her language tell her. I started nice, but now my patience has worn thin and I'm being blunt and to the point. She started as an art tracer, tracing over my pics of said char and calling them her own, but thankfully that seems to have stopped. I've gotten her banned off DA 237216381 times for tracing and general harassment.

I think I remember seeing (or reading about) someone tracing a character of yours (Knut is coming to mind) a long time ago on DA....I think they changed the colors to black and red, but I think you were aware of it at that point. I don't remember their username though.

Goodness.....that's frustrating. I wish there were more effective ways to put a stop to obsessive behavior like that, other than taking care of each incident as they come up, because that gets so time consuming. I'll ask around and see if I can find anything helpful because I'm drawing blanks at the moment.

I had a friend who was once so obsessed with one of the characters that i wrote about, it made me hate the character so much, that i had to kill him off. My character ended up doing it himself because it was so personal. It kills ya to have to cast off something you've worked so hard for.

Well, I can honestly say that I don't think I'm popular enough to have had this problem, but I definitely can imagine it.

I guess it's flattering at first, but then after a while, like you said, it gets creepy.
I don't blame you for your feelings about this.

I'd say it's a shame, cause your art is great and your stuff is adorible, but I guess it's a GOOD thing! A moderate size fanbase of same people is far better then a massive one of creepy ones.

i'm sorry that's happening to you. i don't have the exposure to have that level of harassment yet, but i do understand to a certain degree. i have the fans who fave what i do and have never left a comment. the ones who like to tell me to draw my characters with theirs (yes, TELL, not even asking). so i feel where you're coming from a bit. if i were you, i would disable comments (can you do that on this site?) on the pics of the characters where you just don't want people fanslobbering. that way you can still post the art, the community still gets to see it, but the gibbering nut-fans just have to sit there and swallow their overflowing obsessive hooplah.

Faving without commenting is entirely unrelated to obsessive fanwank. Sometimes, or rather most of the time, most people just have nothing to say other than a generic "Hey I like this" or "What he said," and choose not to say it - the fave says it for them. What's wrong with that?

I generally try to comment every time I fav, but yeah.. sometimes I'm like "Durr, I dunno what to say beyond a cliche 'nice work!'" and don't all the time.

there's nothing wrong with faving without commenting, it's just the people who favourite almost my entire gallery and don't leave a single comment anywhere. i understand not having something to say every time you fave a piece. i know i don't always comment. i just don't understand how someone can fave 10+ pieces and not say a word as to why.

I dunno. I figure that if I got any unsolicited correspondence from some admirer of my work more than once, and felt it wasn't desired, I'd take certain steps to not deal with them at all.

I've never really had that happen. My most popular character is Grant, and I like the attention he gets, but it's never really gotten to a creepy point. When people send me stupid messages, like "Draw him in a vore scene" or "Having sex with my rainbow winged nine-tailed two-dicked half-angel-half-demon fursona" I ignore them.

I read every single comment I get, even the stupid ones, but the internet is the easiest thing to just pretend it isn't there.

I had one person obsessing over this character of mine, and it all ended up with me totally removing that character from my life. In the beginning I only wanted her to become a side character, but the guy kept on being obsessive, and so now she just... is no more.
Bad fact is, the character in question was my "avatar" - it still irks me to be called with her name :/

Some comments I don't mind since it's not frequent from those people, but I've had people obsess over Kazdra's male form numerous times over on DA, and when I told one of them that it was getting creepy and annoying (they were treating the character as if it were real), they started flaming the shit out of me for it. o___O;

Doesn't happen as much with herm Kaz, but I occassionally get people commenting on wanting to "join in" on my sexual pictures between Flaerion and herm Kaz.

I often wonder what it would be like to be popular and accepted by so many, but then I read things like this and it makes me glad of my relative anonymity and isolation from most of the rest of the world. O.o Obsession is not flattering by any stretch of the imagination. If someone likes your art and even collects it, it's fine, nothing wrong with that. There is no excusing obsessive and vulgar behavior, however.

D: I've never had anyone obsess over my art, but I've ABSOLUTELY had two married women fight over me when I role-played Harry Potter-related crap. Keep in mind one of them wanted to leave her husband and move into my DORM with me. The other was 12 years older than me and wanted me to move into her house WITH her husband and two children and enter a poly relationship with them while I basically worked as a male nanny. Neither of these women even talked to me on the phone. All we did was role-play wizards on the internet.

You see Jax, this is why I never posted prawn, stated that I would not draw prawn, and even out right refused commissions. When you give people this incentive that you're just as sick and perverted as they are, they tend to think that you won't mind when they go super-serial stalker (lol southpark) about a specific character that you wanted to like, but now can't stand for the attention he garners. Well, the KIND of attention he garners.

I suppose it's something you have to lay out before hand.
Also, you have to be a dick to people who don't get the message. I mean, be nice the first time, or at least state it in your profile/journal that you do NOT want people to request things about certain characters (unless they intend to pay a great deal for that art) and if they do, you reserve the right to be the biggest bitch in the world, and ignore them.
At least, that's what I do/did to the guy constantly stalking me about a character.

i might not say this much, if at all, but out of all your characters, i think Zelly is my favorite character. shes a strong woman who dosnt need a man to do anything for her, capable of dfefending her self in most situations.

I like girls who can defend them selvs, and stand on their own two feet without needing help.

From what i understand You Role Play as her right, what websites. I've been thinking and ... i think id like to get to know her, if you dont mind my asking that is.

as for the picture, i based the dres off of the one you showed me, it was hard desiding a color for her dress since her hair and eyes were already pink ... lol, im so used to drawing pink dresses ...

If you're uncomfortable with how someone is obsessing over your character, TELL them that you are uncomfortable with how they are and block them.

If this is a LOT of people though... eh, I guess you just have a very popular character.

So, no, I haven't had that exact problem.

BUT. I did make this Caramelldansen icon base that's free-for-use on DA.. And I've got so many comments, questions,notes, complaints, etc. about it that now I can't even listen to the Caramelldansen song without wanting to vomit.. e.e I mean, it had gotten annoying before (I can only handle that kind of song for so long) but now I just.. Can't.. Stand it.
