Humans have 46 Chromosomes chimps have 48,and while I am no expert on the subject what I have found on it is interesting, http://answers.yahoo.com/question/i.....8132712AAe09K8
While there are other species with fused chromosomes, for examples horses they still look like horses and are capable of interbreeding. However humans look very different from chips, the only real similarities are they both walk upright, humans can not interbreed so even though there are other fused cromosomes humans still stand out from their 'acestors'. food for thought

The split between the genera Homo and Pan[1] involves more changes than just the chromosome 2 fusion.
[1] Assuming that they do actually represent two distinct genera, an issue which is still questionable.
