I've had that a few times. Some were recently. As a matter of fact it nearly happened the first couple of days I first joined here. But after the friends I made my first time here, they backed me up, and have been there for me ever since.

Friends are nice... but very frankly I feel like they're just being that to me, nice friends. x.x

Well, I'm sorry I couldn't be of much help then. But just remember this, I will be honest with my opinions on your art (which I have, but maybe I haven't been doing a good enough job), but I will make sure to do it in a gentle fashion.

I do understand niceties and critique is nice too and whatever, but that's not the problem. It's that I'm not getting any better and in fact I feel like I'm actually going backwards recently. :P

Everyone has setbacks. I feel like my art is doing the same actually.

It happens. I can't say it happens to everyone because I'm not everyone. I'll tell you this much, I try not to get down but rather try and look at these things as challenges to be overcome

I've been "overcoming challenges" for six years now, more than it takes to get a promotion at any job, without actually ever GETTING a promotion. Ever.

hmmm well if your work is not giving you what you need then start looking for other jobs. Then when you find something else, somethign better then confront your current employers with the fact of having other prospects and they'll either give you an advancement to keep you or you'll move on to greener pastures.

dude if your talking about your art work, id say its looking pretty fantastic. you gotta note there's a LOT of people on this site who can't even draw. your characters are sexy as hell and your ideas flow. so don't let your self get too down because you never know what great idea you'll miss if you don't keep pushing forward!

Well, that idea of me being able to doodle a little better than the next guy was nice a couple years back, but I really don't think being proud like that has any actual effects on my development or if it's even a good feeling to have for that matter.

perhaps its time to experiment with new techniques. i spent all of last night playing around mixing styles together and i came up with this http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8086516/ if i can do it, you can DEFINITELY do it. heck take a few days to just look at peoples styles and try to work it into your own stuff, it takes time but its better than giving up.

But I wanna be good at what I'm doing right now before I move to something else, I'll just feel stagnated again if I do that.

I'm average, even sub par. Never been able to draw anything to be exactly proud of without it being heavily and easily overshadowed by something else. Anything else.

That's just even more average stuff. Colors are flat, character is off-model and pose is forced. Lighting is barely correct and depth is non existent. :/

its quite normal for one to be harsh on himself but in all honestly it looks fine, but what is it you'd like to transform about this art style?

I'd love to make it look bigger, more vibrant and more detailed. I'd love to make it look like it had depths and angles, and make it look less like just a static drawing. I'd like it if the poses weren't so stiff too. x.x

I don't know, really... I hate being untalented but I also hate not doing what I like doing.

I've ALWAYS gotten those feelings of giving up anything whether it's something you believe in or something you love doing but just couldn't do. But we all have to pick ourselves up in life if no one is there to help out in our time of need. I never needed friends, or family or even close people to help coop with negativity. I did it on my own, even though I did have some unwanted, but necessary help. I think giving up is not the path you'd wanna go. you just need to take a different way out.

Well, it's nice to know that you can deal with that. :P

To tell you the truth, I'm often ignorant when it comes to being strong. I never wanted to be even though in life, you "have" to be strong. Giving up is a what some people, call "A crybaby's cry for help or saying no"

I don't have the luxury of being able to say that "I've never felt that" because I have felt inferior before many times. Even now I'm struggling with this, especially when it comes to art. I know what it's like whenever you look at your own art on a bad day and then see how amazing everyone else's is. I know how it feels to long for the perfection the others seem to have. I know how it feels to feel helpless against your own thoughts of inferiority towards the others. It sucks, I know, but I also know that it rocks to have friends and family remind you that everyone's style is different. It also kicks ass to remember that your style has its own twist to it that the others can never duplicate. Basically I'm trying to that I understand what you feel to an extent, and that rather than surrendering to those dark feelings, Lift your head up let out your battle cry and keep on kicking ass!  therisingphoenix and a lot of other people close to me had to kick my ass back into gear to realize this (again)

As I told him before friends are awesome and everything, but one can only feel encouraged for so long before one realizes that one is not going anywhere with the task at hand. x.x

Sometimes it's okay to withdraw from whatever that task is and just look it over and see what seems to be out of place or you could always just take a day for yourself. Everyone needs to get away every once in awhile, even if its just for a day.

Maybe I'll just do that... Even though I will keep on being terrible after I come back no matter how long I was away. x.x

No you won't. You were terrible to begin with. I actually envy you a bit. You're art style is very captivating with that cartoon feel to it and the way you color is insane! What's more awesome about you is how you can pump out so many colored drawings where I can only produce one after God knows how long. If you still feel awkward about your style, try looking at other styles and try implementing the parts of those styles you like into your own and make a new style. It's now easy, but it is fun in the long run.

I never give up. My mother taught me that at an early age. If i give up, then that means im giving up on all those that supported me onsite and offsite. Ive been on here going almost 5 years now and i have never had a doubt in my mind of giving up.

That's because your drawings are awesome, I don't think you would ever feel inadequate if you actually have the talent. >.<

Oh trust me, I was on DeviantArt for 5 years, one of those years I was without internet for a few months, when I came back to continue my artwork, I felt as if no one cared. I got less views than I wanted. Yeah, I left DA, but I went back to start over and push myself to be even better than I was before. I didnt give up, I just found an alternative way of bettering myself.

I know exactly how you feel. I believe that's why I'm in a bit of an art slump myself because I feel like my art isn't worth it either. But then again I didn't come to this site to compare myself to other artists. I came here to post my art, and improve, whether it be slowly or quickly, my art.

It depends on what you mean about giving up. If you mean actually stopping the pursuit of drawing, no, never, because I draw out of love for drawing. If you mean to stop showing it to the public for whatever reason, sure, why not? Nobody else's opinion or input has the ability to change the nature of a person, nor does exposure or lack thereof. So you're as capable as you are, no matter who observes you or doesn't observe you, or what they have to say about it.

As for finding other things at which you are good, that's always a nice thing to do. Finding other skills and pursuits improves art, in fact, because the more well-rounded an artist's field of experience is, the more they have to call on when summoning their images and the more nuanced the result. It's by no means necessary to bury one's art in order to unearth new abilities.

Of course, from a greedy personal standpoint *I* don't want you to quit, that's why I watch you, because I enjoy your work! Likewise, with over 700 watchers, you should consider it to mean 700 votes for you staying around to do what you do. But more than that, I'd want you, or any other artist, to find happiness, and if that means "quitting" then so be it. But, I'll be hoping you end up finding happiness in such a way that you're still sharing your work with us. :3

To be honest, I'm always surprised whenever I see someone has put one of my drawings in their favorites or has left me a comment... It's a very pleasant surprise. :P

It's something that most everyone feels time and again, I know I have. But I'll say this: Anything worth keeping or any goal worth reaching is never easy. Don't be a quitter. You have my support, should you need it. You can't let thoughts like that win. Your a friendly person and a talented artist in your own right.

i know this feel

sometimes i get frustrated with my art because all i ever seem to be able to draw are weird bug-eyed furries standing around with their hands behind their backs but don't give up!

i gave up for like, a year. and when i started again, i was worse than when i was drawing rigidly every day! i found that my grasp on anatomy and proportions was horrible and that i had forgotten how to draw hands that didn't look malformed. i'm still trying to get back to how i was, even though at that point in my life i was still fairly amateur.

tl;dr: giving up will only hurt your skill in the long run and you'll be even sadder when you pick it up again.

Wow, I hadn't put it into that perspective before... I'm gonna have to think about that one. x3

Yeah, I do feel that way sometimes. Quite a bit actually. But you know what I do? I slap myself in the face and tell myself to get back up and prove to the world that I'm worth it's time. I never asked to be perfect, andd you know what? I'm not. And I'm perfectly fine with that. Because none of us are, no matter what. We're all talented and special in our own way. And so are you.

Don't worry so much about how your work compares to others. The only reason you should ever quit is if you're just plain not having any fun. If your hobby becomes a chore, maybe a break is due.

Oh yes I am having fun, it's something I've felt I'm good at for the longest time, the only thing in my life in which I'm apparently not terrible at doing. I do enjoy it a lot, but I do get disheartened when I look back and see that so many years have passed and my progress is negligible at best. It is a little frustrating, to be honest...

Must be one of those eye of the beholder things. I'm lookin' at the back of your gallery, and I see a lot of improvement. I'll tell you something I've noticed though; great artists are never, ever satisfied. So if there's not ever gonna be a point where you say "Alright, NOW my art is absolutely sublimely perfect, and I can relax" then you may as well enjoy the ride some more.
