But that doesnt rule out the idea that they are active members of the community. For instance, they may make contact with people through their art, free streams and the like. My other half only really interacts with people during her streams, for instance, But that doesn't mean she isn't friendly.

It can be a 'you're all below me' power trip, but it can also be a number of factors including the time they have to interact, How they are in real life, etc. I know that (if I were an artist that was popular or good at what I do in the slightest) I would be a little miffed at being obligated to respond in kind to all of them, especially if they are watching for my art, not ky friendship.
