'Tis ashame we did not hang out more during the con....it seemed like there were times that nothing was happening and it quickly switched to alot happening.

It is a shame. I felt like I did not connect as well with many others as I did in previous Califurs. So many SoCal furries that I sorta kinda know, but not all 'that' well.

I have a hard time recognizing people that I do not see often when they are not in fursuit. I usually rely on badges to help remind me, but the badges they provided at the con did not have the name visible.

Because of that, I ended up hanging out mostly with people I already knew as a defense mechanism against potential embarrassment.

Heh, with me its the opposite. I have a terrible short term memory and often cannot remember the faces of the people I had once talked to. To them we are the best of friends, to me, they're just someone I met once in a marketplace. The way I see it is that if I had chatted with them once before and it seems we left in a good mood, then they must be a friend more than a foe, therefore I still chat with them just the same. Though it is usually the same scenario until I finally start to remember their face and name.

Is Califur a worthy con to attend? Or, given that California is a 12 hour trip for me, should FC remain the default west coast con of choice?
Am exploring my con options for 2013...

FC is WAY bigger and has stuff like events for people to go to. Califur is mostly a relaxacon. People shuffle in Friday and leave Sunday. It's one third the size of FC and is almost exclusively attended by Californians or people who used to live in CA.

So, unless you want to go to ALL the cons out there, I personally would not spend the money and time to go to Califur.

Had heard a lot of people discuss Califur, and there are a few California based furs I'd like to see again ( Rio the Macaw, for one ), but I guess FC will be the con to go to should I be back that direction again.
