FCN 2008 in Review
Oooooooooooooook, so where to begin, hah. Needless to say this weekend rocked, epically and in more ways than one. Not only was it my first fur convention, but it was also a record-breaking one for having the most registrations/attendence for a first year (fur) con. So much fun and so many friends made.
Friday
So I wake up around 9am, get dressed, shower, talk to Kat online, and load up the truck. 2 hours later, I arrive at the Best Western. Immediately met up with Kat and them in the parking lot, went in, checked in with registration (since I pre-reg'd it didn't take any time at all) and met up with some more people. Got my stuff up to my room, met up with Bismarck (my roommate and a friend I made online), then headed down to the main atrium. We hung out there for awhile with the other furs and talked for awhile. My attention was divided from the crazy weather and the fact that I was at a furry convention, hehe. Went to the opening ceremonies around 1pm, then sat around for awhile some more until around 2pm, where I went to the dealers den and immediately got what I wanted for so long...a husky tail! hehe. I went up stairs and put it on immediately. I was sooo happy. I had my collar on as well. Pretty soon Luke, his mom and friend Morgan (Evangeline) got there. I went to the convention newbs discussion, then wandered around exploring a bit. There was a lot going on and all of them would be too boring/minute to put into an entry but suffice it to say I was not bored. I had plenty to do. Later that night was the Furry Variety Show, also funny and entertaining. A few of us went out to dinner that evening. By a few of us, I mean Luke, Evangeline, Echo, Sushikitten, and myself. We ended up at the bd's where the already drunk Echo got drunker. After he had come on to Eva and sushi, he realized that the "Mongolian King Men" had already "made them moist" (his words). So there was nothing he could do, lol. Lots more jokes and laughs were had by all. Then came the Friday Night Flailing which just won. Plain and simple. Laser lights + raving + fursuits = division of zero worth of fun. That's pretty impossible you might think, but then you'd be stupid. 'Course, the night wouldn't have been complete without the whole dance floor getting Rick Roll'd. Thanks a lot guys. ^_^
Saturday
Woke up around 10am to the knocking of the cleaning crew. Shortly thereafter more fur friends came by to wake me up though I was already up at that point. Got dressed, went downstairs, hung out for awhile in the atrium, then watched/taped the fursuit parade. Oh that was fun-tastic. Also later met up with Neurosiskitten and Nuclear Ninja. All of us hung out for awhile, had our sushi meet where we went up stairs, prepared the fixings for sushi, came downstairs to the main atrium, "set up shop" as it were, Sushikitten, Rhia, and Yuni started assembling the sushi rolls and taking orders, then the five of us (them, myself, and neurosiskitten) took everything upstairs where we cut it out. Later sushi was brought down and had by all. More fun ensued. I know I'm being vague here but really there's just too much to talk about and I'm just including the main bullet points as it were about the weekend. Later that night it was Uncle Kage's story hour, which was not only entertaining but hilarious. Followed shortly thereafter by 2, the Ranting Gryphon. After that, we (friends and I) wandered around for awhile through the gaming rooms and such until the Saturday Night Booty Shakin'. That, too, was epic. I believe Rick Rolling went on here as well later that night, though around 2:30am I had to call it quits, heh. I was exhausted and couldn't shake my "booty" anymore. DJ Oddy and DJ Rok make a pretty mean DJ Duo. Went back to my room, took a shower, went to bed exhausted and with hurting, but happy, legs.
Sunday
Oh Sunday...how terribly sad it was the day we had to leave. Woke up that morning, got dressed, went downstairs and hung out with everyone for several hours in the atrium, and then went to the 2 Sense Show Live. Afterwards, we hung out in the atrium and watched the Fursuit Olympics. That was pretty entertaining and fun. Talked with even more people. When that was over, we went to the closing ceremonies, and then packed up the truck and headed home. Kat and Eenyu got to Mt. Pleasant before Rok, Drake and I did, but nevertheless, it was an enjoyable ride home (albeit sobering and somewhat depressing to leave so many new found friends).
So, that about sums up the weekend in a nutshell. There was a lot more stuff going on but I don't have the energy to include every last detail. In total, there were about 372 attendees, and 57 fursuiters. Awesome sauce. And what would this entry be without pics and videos to accompany it? Incomplete, that's what! Also, if you have pics/vids from this weekend (especially those of me) I would very much like a copy, hehe. E-mail addy is: hurricane aaron at hotmail dot com (without the spaces, obviously)
