I saw it, and damn...

Still, it wins an award in my book for having an allusion to a sex scene, followed by the guy saying "And that was where I made the biggest mistake of my life..."

... I never see that in stuff nowadays.

Saw the movie a few years ago and got it on DVD

Definately one of the sadder ones from that studio, along with Grave of the Fireflies.

Still really good. I do like the 'following a story through the years' feel it has, where most movies now at days cover very short spans of time. And I like how it was a fantasy story based around real events.

A good movie for everyone... so long as you can look past the 'magic pouch' thing. :p

The phylogeneticist wants to comment on the "raccoon" part, but since you seemed to love it so much I can let it pass. It WAS a great film. Good storytelling and excellent, relaxed pace.

I'm less forgiving then Gabriel. Tanukis =/= raccoons!

Was a good movie despite the enormous focus on balls.

The first time i saw that movie it was a korean boot leg with subtitles that were translated from japanese, to korean, then korean to english XD So it was mostly watched for the Studio Ghibli eye candy.

But yeah its one of those films that goes way under the radar, tho i prefer the japanese version because they cut out a bit of content in teh english dub, and having Tress MacNeille play old Fireball just reminded me of too many other characters she voices XD
