*paces from side to side tail flicking like mad* d... damn damn damn damn!!! ... i just vent all my stress at AC and now its back with a vengeance... just found out... today. that one of my families sets of keys to the house ... the one I'm kinda renting a room from have been stolen because of one of them 'forgot' the keys ... outside... while over the weekend.
ya this is great.. i just get home i vent my stress i get home i buy a brand new laptop to make my day to replace the old one i got all this fun... a... and then.. and THEN! today... 4 days after it happens and 3 after i get home... I then get told about this. that and as well that supposedly the damn guy who might have the keys has already come to the house to check it out. apparently some middle eastern man came up to the door while no one was here banging on the door depending to see someone to sign us into a contract with the Edmonton Journal newspaper... as far as i remember the Edmonton journal never does contracts!
*keeps pacing as shi flicks hir tail eye twitching more* i h... had plans all this week... go to vets night play games see friends vent!!! before work *shakes hir fists* n... now... THIS!

and who ever "lost" their keys need to pay for all the locks
Yeah, don't sit on this. There's a good chance insurance wouldn't cover theft if there is no evidence of forced entry... so get the locks changed like.. FIRST THING TOMORROW.
What else were on their set of keys? Because if they had shed, garage, back door or car keys their in for a right fun time.
But yeah, worrying too much will make you paranoid that every sound is something bad. Grab a hot chocolate, check out some local locksmiths (and your landlord/home owner) and see what they can do. Probably not a lot, but once the ball starts rolling....

If you can, leave lights on outside and all around the house at night, that might discourage any unwanted visits.
Also try have some bolts installed in meantime.
A rather simple yet effective thing to do is drill a hole in the floor right behind the front door where you can stick a pin or screwdriver into so that even if the door is unlocked it can't just be opened....ofcourse that's assuming the door opens inwards
as for having a deadbolt its what we have right now and is what the key is missing too. but we got this auto system in it if you put in this piece of plastic then put in a new key it rekeys itself... just got to find that damn plastic thing.

Castle Doctrine varies by state, but where I live, it's enough that they are in your house uninvited after dark. You don't have to prove thread to life, the suspicion is sufficient in that case. Pro tip: Don't shoot a relative by mistake.
