On the new 'guest block' feature...

"X user has elected to make their content available to registered users only."

Why?

Are people really so paranoid that they don't even want casual passersby on the frontpage to see their recent submissions? It's kinda pointless anyway, as if someone sees a thumbnail for something they really want to look at, they'll take two minutes to create an account. Same goes for rude comments--you can't make those without an account anyway. You can even read most of the submission description by hovering over the thumbnail. I used to enjoy looking at the various recent submissions when FA redirects me to the frontpage after I log out, but it seems like fully half of the artists on this site have disabled guest access. (I could just log back in, but that's tedious after I want to leave the computer.)

Opinions on this site feature?

I keep this feature on so that non-FA users, namely those furries who tend to stay on facebook and such, stay away from my gallery. All too often do I come across a facebook profile with pages upon pages of art taken from various artists on here, and I would hate to see mine on there, so I keep the guest block feature on. Sure, that will not stop them, but it may deter them a little bit. *shrugs* I feel that it's a good thing. If you want to use the full features of FA, you have to get one.

I never thought of the art theft angle...good point. Also, what exactly do you mean about using the full features of FA?

Like being able to browse the galleries and such. Without being a member, you're not allowed in some places due to the block feature. To be able to go anywhere, then people should need to be registered.

I don't post my fetish everywhere for all to see, but at the same time, I don't try to hide it actively. If/when someone makes a connection, I let them formulate their own opinions and if they choose to no longer associate with me, that's their problem and they probably weren't worth my time.

Employers, etc. seeing this kind of thing isn't an issue, because I never post anything of this nature in any of the few places online that show my real name, or anything else that could link an online persona of mine to the real me.

I tag all of my images with a signature and date anyway so I am not OVERLY paranoid of art theft. Although perhaps I should also start pasting a link to my account... Anyway regardless of that I highly doubt I will ever use the block feature, the whole point of an art website is to let other people see your art, what's the difference if they have a user name or not?

I've always had them because they want to mess with my suit and do you know what. That's all they think about..my suit and not the real me. Heck I've got many watchers whom I don't even know and they just randomly add when I post a picture of Ace as a drawing or as a fur suit. It drives me up the wall!

It's just a bunch of random furs....
Whenever I watch someone it's more than the suit either I met them on Tiny Chat or LiveStream, ect.

Even SFW furry art can be the subject of witch hunts from the seedier corners of the internet. Some people have stalkers, prefer greater privacy, or are just plain paranoid. Might go a ways toward keeping the googlebots out of the gallery, too. I can find shouts and comments to SFW images I've made here out on Google, so I know they're around here somewhere.

Another nice think about the guest block feature is it encourages people to join the community in a subtle way. But this feature was mainly invented for privacy and protection.

Well for me, I'd rather not have random people online looking at my art. :0 If they REALLY want to see it, then they can make an account, like you said. xD But I know I wouldn't bother with that unless I really wanted to join the site.

I suppose so, but I always figured that an art site is a place to show the world your art. x3 (I can understand not wanting people to see the mature/adult stuffs, but there's already a filter for that. x3)
