You're opening the windows at night and closing them in the morning to keep the night-time cool(er) inside? It's not much I know, but it might help some.

Get two or one liter bottles, like from pop. Fill them 2/3 with water, freeze them. When you get overheated, pull them out, wrap in a towel (to soak up the inevitable condensation), and use them to cool off. Not prefect, but they help.

Get white paper, cover any window that catches the sun, to make sure you aren't getting any additional heat form greenhouse effect.

Fill tub with cold water. Will act as a moderate heat sink. Keep bathroom door closed as much as possible. Should cool the bathroom down at least a little, give you a 'safe haven' from the wrost of the heta.

I too, live without AC.

Oh goodness! I know exactly how you feel. We have issues with our AC pretty much every year (old house).

Also, I read your other journal about maybe renting them... What we did is pick one room we decided "needed it the most". In my case, our bedroom. Because, well, I sleep there. XD And I can always go hide out in there. I got a 100 dollar small unit for the bedroom, and camped in there until we could fix the main unit.

And honestly, I've never been happier. At first I thought I was wasting 100 dollars, but my bedroom is made from an old garage. And in the Texas heat it got hot as hell every summer. Now I can always get it as cold as I want in there!

That may not work for you, but it worked out really well for me. And I'm sure renting 4 or 5 would be about 100 anyway, even for that short amount of time.

I would do this if I hadn't already spent everything on fixing the house A/C and payday is the same day it's supposed to be fixed.
