Anime Expo 2012.
So this year was eventful. I got a ride from a guy I've never met prior to driving with him to AX, cosplayed, and stayed at AX until very late.
=Day 1 (June 29): I cosplayed as Chuck Greene (from DR2) in his Shaun of the Dead gear, but I did add variety to it throughout the day, and had to keep going to the bathroom to re-gel my hair. After awhile, one sleeve didn't want to stay rolled up, so I had one sleeve up and one down, and just decided to be Psychopath Chuck (DR2:OTR) in Shaun of the Dead gear. Some people got that I was Chuck Greene (possibly because I look like him but younger) even when I was Psycho Chuck (because when I became Psycho Chuck, I spent some time running up to people going "Have you seen my daughter Katey?! I need to find her, and then find some Zombrex.") But a lot of people thought I was Shaun from Shaun of the Dead, which made me happy even if they were wrong. I went to a panel discussing the origin of the anime fandom, which was actually really fun and lead by one of the staff members on this site: http://www.starblazers.com/home.php. I then decided to do something I never would have if I wasn't trying to save money by avoiding the Dealer's Hall: Watch the Funimation dub of Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt.
-Let me be honest with you, I've not watched the original version of Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, at least not past episode 1. So I can't say whether or not "THE DUB COMPLETELY CHANGED EVERYTHING! HOW DARE THEY!" but I think Funimation does a good job of keeping the emotion that the original voice actors had in Japanese, and I feel like they did that in this dub. They swore a lot, but (I'm subscribed to Funimation's yt channel) Funimation was apparently told by the company that made PaSwG to swear as much as possible without getting in trouble. From what I saw of the anime, it's clearly a comedy-focused series, so Funimation did a great job because people were laughing and flailing and whewting. The loudest "whewt" was when Panty saw Brief's underwear turn into a shotgun. So if you like Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, you CAN watch the first two episodes dubbed for free on Funimation's website, and if you like what you see buy the dvd. But it was so awkward because I just plopped down in line first, and all the people behind me were spazzing out and I didn't know anything they were talking about. After that I went to watch the Persona: Trinity Soul anime. It's very confusing in the first few episodes, it doesn't really tie into any of the other series except for Persona 3, because Akihiko Sanada appears in it later (I didn't see him appear.) So if you like Persona enough to watch anime of it that has little to do with the main series, then look for sub episodes on youtube or something. Oh, the showing was sub only. FUN FIRST DAY. Only took me half an hour to get my badge.
-At the con, they had Ni no Kuni for the PS3, One Piece Kaizoku Musou, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations and DBZ for the Kinect. The Kinect game looked so stupid... So I didn't try it, but I tried Ni no Kuni and I found it pretty fun. :D
I was trying to not have a spazz attack because the day before my dad threw a temper tantrum and aimed it at me.
=Day 2 (June 30): Wore the Chuck/Shaun outfit again, it wasn't stinky and I didn't sweat in it because I wore a shirt under it. Today I took pictures of good cosplays, wandered around the Dealer's Hall like an idiot looking for LittleKuriboh and Egoraptor's booths, didn't find them, and it was getting close to the furmeetup in AX in the Concourse Hall. So I just shrugged and went to the Hall and tried to mingle. I was very awkward around people because I didn't know ANYONE besides my ride and three people on facebook. So I probably bugged them all, and I'm very sorry about that. After that I just kind of hung around with some of the furries until they had to leave, then just sat in a room watching the first few episodes of the Shin-Chan dub until my ride wanted to leave. So many furries in Cali I don't even know. Oh, and I saw a Sonic guy. I wonder if he could see in his costume (it was a fursuit in the style of Cartoon Sonic). The X Games came and messed up everyone's parking.
-I tried the Naruto game today. It suffers a lot from an issue you can say DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 had, with too many characters, it seems really hard to make the game look all that great. It seems weird they pick certain people as support characters, and the whole game seems well.... From what I played, passive people like Kurenai still had to go toe to toe with people. They should put a bigger effort in the engine and not make it a beat down.
-I also got a Shonen Jump bag today, and was sad because the Viz (people who translate SJ's manga for America) weren't even considering translating Steel Ball Run. I'm not going to pay 26 bucks to subscribe for a year for manga I can buy physical copies of. It also bugged me that the guy's biggest selling point is that you can now read manga on your Ipad and zoom in. It's just one of those things with technology that makes you go "But I can do that myself (and in this case) with an actual book and my eyes...." It might've hurt the guy's pitch because he used Bleach as an example, which I am really not a fan of, or the fact that they're only TWO WEEKS BEHIND JAPAN. Great. You're two weeks behind on SJ's big bread-winners, but 30 volumes behind on Detective Conan, stopped translating Ultimate Muscle, and never did any other JoJo Parts besides Stardust? I'm not too interested. Today I tried the Naruto game. I feel like Naruto is shooting itself in the foot with the big character roster and some characters as support characters.
-I worked at a booth selling manga and dvds. The boss was rude, and is from like, Virginia. He did say he'd hire me again if I was at Comic Con. LOLNOTTHISYEAR.
=Inbetween these two days, I saw the most recent Madea movie at midnight. Eugene Levy, I'm so sorry. I thought you would be funny, and Tyler Perry ruined your chances.
=Day 3 (July 1): So the Chuck/Shaun costume was sweaty now, and I decided not to wear it because I didn't want to wash it. I wasn't sure if the fake blood would turn pink or not, and didn't want to take the chance. I hung around with some of the furries I met yesterday, and met some of their friends. I finally found Egoraptor's booth, got him to sign the first page of a new notebook, and took a picture with him. I also bought a Persona 4 poster, some manga, and bought a fellow fur some food. I went out to the foodtrucks outside the convention center for lunch, and for some reason religious protestors were there. The only with any kind of megaphone was right next to the X Games' race track, which wasn't very smart of her/him, because the cars would roar their engines and they'd become inaudible. Then again, who wants to hear them talk? I just shouted "NICE COSPLAY!" At them and got everyone around me to laugh. What? I thought it was a costume.
-I FOUND EGORAPTOR AND LITTLEKURIBOH'S BOOTH!
-I got Egoraptor to sign my notebook and take a photo with me, and then apologized for him being on the Tester. He wasn't sorry. Good.
-So when I got into the Dealer's Hall, I saw an open spot for the One Piece game. I played it, as Sanji going through the Arlong arc. Wow, they put a lot of time and consideration into this, making it a unique experience for a video game, but it still seemed like a fight that fits the manga/anime, and that's what I look for in a game for an anime/manga series. I let a little kid go, saw no one else waiting and tried Zoro, and he was fun, but I think Sanji is more my style. Although I'm not perverted like him.
-While I was playing (or waiting to play) I saw a BUNCH OF PEOPLE try the DBZ Kinect game, and they looked hilarious as some guy with dreads taught them. When they were done, whether they won or lost, he then interviewed them on their experience. One person who was playing was dressed up as a Kid Gohan and they had FUN. They were playing as Kid Gohan, so I can understand having fun on that aspect, but the game has a flaw by being on the Kinect, and really just DBZ: Ultimate Tenkaichi in a FPS view but the characters of DBZ don't need guns, they just need their arms and legs. Oh lawd, I'd be surprised if this Kinect game sold at all.
-I saw the dub of Black Butler, and holy crap, people squealed every time a new (main) character was introduced, or something remotely fanservicely sexual, or romantic happened. When the main butler, Sebastian, appeared, the audience pretty much did THE WAVE as they were cheering. Obviously, the room packed up very quickly. I only got to see the first four episodes, and waited in a long line to see what the series is about. From what I saw, it seems like a series that is a bunch of random cases that don't really have an arc, like Case Closed/Detective Conan. The only real complaint I have about the series is that it seems too easy for the protagonist to beat the bad guy. Of course, this is the first four episodes, but it seemed more like the role of ALMIGHTY VILLAIN should go to our leads, not the random villains.
-I also did some amateur voice acting for a Bang! Zoom! panel. I wanted to go to Hetalia's panel but it was full, and so was Kyle Hebert's, and I just wound up in this panel where they were letting con-goers do voice acting. I did the voice of this guy named Kamina from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, which I haven't followed a lot of. So I would see the line in Japanese, see the passion and pauses and what-not, then get the scene played back muted, hear three beeps then talk on the fourth one. The guy said I did a good job picturing the passion behind the character and asked if I was a fan, which I said I wasn't. :c At least, not yet. :D
Day 4 (July 2): Last Day! ;_; I was trying not to cry as I walked around the convention center. I was dressed in my recently made Johnny Joestar cosplay, and six different people recognized me and took my picture! :D
-I was making last purchases, to make this con last. I got an Egoraptor Megaman X poster (of X and Spark Mandrill, signed by Ego himself) and then asked Ego to sign my Megaman X: Maverick Hunter game, which we both agreed was "Okay." He's a cool guy, the girl in line to get him to sign shit before me had Ego call her boyfriend. LAWL, I could hear the guy go "OH MY GAAAAWD!" and squeal like a fangirl.
-I got some manga, mostly catching up with my favorite series, and I waited to do it today for the deals.
-Got LittleKuriboh to sign my Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist vol. 4 (Bandit Keith's debut) and vol. 15 (The start of the Duel Yugi and Joey ,possessed by Marik, have that LK makes fun of by turning it into a friendship drinking game.) He and his wife are very nice, and LK felt it was an honor voicing Freiza and felt he had a lot of fun. I told him he's a great voice actor, and I think he seemed flattered. I honestly think he does good work.
-Went to a stand that literally had a pile of DBZ/DBGT action figures, looked for a Majuub. No luck, sadly. :c Strived on for my next purchase. Got a funny shirt instead.
-This may sound silly, but every year I wait until five minutes until the Dealer's Hall closes (3:00 pm on the last day) to make a purchase that will represent my experience with the con. Just manga if it was an okay experience, some video game if it was fun, and some art if it was great. I got a Persona 4 art poster, this con was so much fun.
-I tried the Kinect DBZ game. I stopped playing because I couldn't stop laughing at how lazy it is.
-So my ride wanted to stay until AX ends at 6-7 on this day. I went to go watch Full Metal Panic Fumoffu, and then got a text from him saying he wanted to leave because the gamer's room was closed.
-Although I wasn't a big fan of the guy giving me a ride, he seems like an okay guy, just really loud when I want to be quiet or want quiet, even in the night when I was running around the con and was exhausted on the previous days. But that's who he is, and I really doubt he'd change if I asked, so I didn't bother. It was only four days.
-I got a lot of business cards for companies to see if they're close to me. They are somewhat.

OP
You could have ghosted it. As far as I know, you can go into the con with no badge, but you can't go into the dealer's hall, video rooms, panels and what-not without a badge. Although I wouldn't recommend it, you can go with a friend who has a badge and trade-off.

That's actually a very good term for it. Going without really going. I'll have to use that.
