Movin' On...

*blows the dust off of the journal*
Well, as it's become more than obvious, I don't post here very often. But, I felt the need to get this into writing.
I'm 22 years old. I turn 23 at the end of August. In today's world, that makes me feel real old for some reason. Especially because I still live with my folks. Of course, given todays housing market here in Alberta, you can forgive me. Anywho, I'm digressing a bit.
I'm writing and thinking because it's time for a very big change in my life: I am moving out of the house I grew up in, and this time, more for good.
I moved out two years ago for school, but it didn't REALLY feel like moving out. I was more just on...an extended leave. A lot of my stuff had stayed at home while I was in dorm, I still had a room waiting for me back in Calgary, and besides, once the school year was over, I was back in my old house anyways. And after determining that no, engineering was not for me, I stayed there and worked again, making back the money I'd wasted.
Over the last year, I've been going to college again, getting myself on track for something I've always really WANTED to do, but never really had the courage for before now:
Teaching. I want to teach. But not just anything, I want to teach high school Social Studies. I want to get kids realizing why it's important to vote, and why it's such a privilege to. Why history is important, and how it can be very, very cool.
So, what does this have to do with moving out? The University I'm going to to get my Bachelor's of Education is not in my home town, it's back where I flunked out of engineering. But this time, I'm not going into dorms, but moving in with a few very good friends up there. It's been a tough choice, going there instead of the university here. It'll be more expensive, I have to leave this town, where a lot of my friends (And my fiancee!) are, as well as a lot of familiarity, but the UofA is a much, much better school, especially for education. And besides, Vox'll be joining me as soon as he finishes up his school!
Also, like I said, I'm going to be 23 when this new academic year starts. I need to quit being dead weight to my folks. :P
So, as it gets closer to the actual day in early July, probably very soon after AC, I'll try to put up an update or two.

FA+

I suppose the kicker on that is that I'm a teacher. I wound up in elementary music, even though I wanted to do high school music originally, but as I near the end of my second year (and my 24th birthday), it's something that I feel good about. I actually considered Social Studies, but around here there's a major over-saturation of people with high school social studies certification. I don't know what Canada is like, though...probably better, I'd imagine. I think it'd be hard to find a "first-world" country with an educational system worse than what you find in most of the USA.
Anyway, from one folf to another, good luck with the education studies. Hopefully you can get some classroom experience, or at least get to observe things from "the other side of the desk" early on--better to get any doubts out of the way at the beginning, instead of right at the end the way they do it here. Feel free to hit me up for some educational theory any time ;)
