Anyways, what sets it apart is the way it handles passive stats when you level up, and active skills your characters use. Your passive stats are chosen off of a Final Fantasy 10 style grid. There are a LOT of different paths to choose from, and each sector of the grid has different themes of buffs. So it's not a fancifiyed linear thing, it actually has a hell of a lot of player choice in it. And you can come up with some kooky builds. At the end of a lot of paths there are game-changing nodes that grant major effects, such as one that removes all your mana, and you cast spells from your HP pool instead.
Skill-wise, it uses the Final Fantasy 7 Materia system. All your gear has colored slots. You can fit a Skill Gem into a slot who's color it matches and use it. Yes, a Mage can use a Shield Bash attack as long as he has the passive stats for it. See where I'm getting at with kooky builds? There are also passive gems that will augment other gems they are linked to.
Oh, and Endgame? You can find shreds of enchanted maps. Take these maps to a laboratory and it will generate an infinite amount of randomized end game dungeons. Each map generates 1 level and is used up on creating it. Since maps are items, they can also be enchanted, Epic, Legendary, and have extra stat modifiers that will improve the loot quality of things dropped in the map, and raise the challenge of the enemies.
