The Marvel vs. Capcom franchise's charm, aside from its Cable-loving mash-happiness, was the fact that two franchises had a chance to jam as many little things they could into it. From having Jubilee or Arthur watch your back to whatever obscure game Amingo comes from, it was a broad-spectrum bundle of dorky fun.

Mortal Kombat doesn't have the same broad character base Street Fighter, let alone Capcom, does. The highlight of its franchise has been the hilariously over the top finishing moves and fatalities. No-one gives a shit about Scorpion or his story, all everyone knows is that he's the one who says "GET OVER HERE".
