I feel like I must defend Obama or the Democrats. I just can't sit on the side lines until election time.
In general, Conservatives don't seem to realize that they already pay for a very nice "socialized" healthcare system already: the military. Everyone's tax dollars pay for our healthcare, our housing, our food... The ones saying they'll move to Canada are idiots (probably hateful Tea Party rednecks), because Canada has exactly what they supposedly hate - socialism.
They also don't seem to understand what the Act entails and how nothing will change for those people lucky enough to have health coverage through their employer, who those who are on state health programs or Medicare. It's us middle class folks who make just a bit too much money to qualify for state and federal programs, but not enough to pay for what our employer might provide (or maybe working part time and not at all entitled to health benefits) that really need this.
And that's what I envision as our situation next year - Fluffy's enlistment done and him as a full time student, while I work part-time to pay the bills. The Post 9/11 G.I. Bill will pay our mortgage, but we'll need an income to pay for utilities, gas in the car, food... But me going back to work full time will be tricky, because I'll have to work around his school schedule. Also, we'll have an infant to care for. My 10-year-old son is homeschooled, but he's not old enough to babysit, let alone be home by himself for more than an hour or so.
Daycare is ridiculous, and even if I could find a full time job that worked around Fluffy's school schedule, half my salary would go to strangers watching my children. So the smartest thing for us is for me to work part-time. Part-time employment doesn't tend to offer benefits. Hence, we'll need that income-based coverage the Affordable Healthcare Act is supposed to offer.
The wealthy Conservatives can rant about it all they like. They aren't stuck making the kinds of decisions average Americans, like me and Fluffy, have to make. But Fluffy hates the military and it's just not the life or career for him (it's a good career, but definitely not the right path for everyone). So he needs to go to school to do what he really wants to do with his life.
I love being an author, but that doesn't bring in enough money in royalties to support our family.
So we have to do what's necessary to make ends meet, and healthcare is my biggest concern, merely because I have children. At the very least, it's important that they are covered.
OK. I'm done ranting. I hate politics with a passion.
Well I feel the same way. I don't think the Air Force is right for more any longer than what I got for my contract. Its pathetic at how the oh so rich Republicans think this is bad thing for us working class or less rich Americans.
I actually love politics with a passion.
