Drawing utensil suggestions anyone?
As many of you have likely noticed, I was able to find an artist to draw up the chakat template idea I had in my previous journal. A big thanks again to
voxian for drawing the blank line art (you can find it in his gallery here). The three chakats I have in my gallery so far (amberheart, bushtail, and Hollyfur) were all colored in either using my trackball mouse (not great for getting lines where you want them to go) or with the touch pad on my laptop (way too small and causes cramps in my fingers). I am currently in the process of coloring a clouded leopard and it is painfully slow, so I was hoping someone out there may have some suggestions on what would be a decent (but somewhat inexpensive) tablet for art programs (i think that is what they are called).
I am using a windows 7 laptop, or a windows xp desktop, and am using the newest version of GIMP. Any help would be greatly appreciated because while it can be done with a mouse, I have almost a hundred different chakats in my family tree and I want to introduce as many of them as possible.
Tail High everyone!

lol well I was about to shout to you when I read this, so I'll comment at least :3
anyways, first off, you're drawing with a touchpad!? duudde! you're crazy lol x3 I thought you at least had a regular mouse...
and as far as cheap tablets... the best one to get would most certainly be the one I'm using... the Bamboo fun package ... it runs for about $50 and it's just about the cheapest one on the market right now, just look on ebay the original package comes with photoshop elements... so you may be able to get photoshop with it as well
anyways, good luck and all! and if you ever want a copy of Paint Tool SAI, just let me know :3 it's what I use for all my art
Yeah touchpad for the detail stuff, I don't have a regular mouse, got rid of them for nice thumb operated trackballs, unfortunately while they work good for most games and are great for when you do not have a flat surface for a mouse, they are not the best at fine fine detail control.
Thanks for the tip on the bamboo, I think i may have stumbled across it when doing some internet searches the other day, but hadn't had a chance to look into it yet, definitely will now though.
Thanks again for the tip, and I have no idea what paint tool SAI is. Is it another drawing program, or an application for photoshop?
anyways, i can understand why you would replace everything with trackballs... I had always liked those more too, actually i've got one really big arcade style one, just for gaming :3
the bamboo is one of the best out there :3 and the best part is that it's affordable... hopefully you can get one :3
paint tool SAI is another drawing program... the reason it's used a lot is because it makes nice smooth lines and such... it doesn't have the functionality of photoshop, but it's nice, compact, and simple...
just make sure you stay away from the "touch only" ones... those don't use a pen... i think they're silly....
and the price you mentioned sounds about right to be honest
