Stole this idea from
likeshine I am sure she will be ok with it. :P
I'd like to know how your nick/handle/alias/etc came about.
Here is my story to start.
I originally became a furry in May of 2003 when I went to the hometown college library to use the public computer for the Internet to check my mail and such. (This was of course before I had my own laptop now.)
At that time, I was just getting into weres and such and I happened across a famous furry site you would all known as VCL. Well, when I was glancing through there, looking at the pics, a stranger came by and seen me looking at this site and he came by a little bit later and about scared the pants off me by saying a loud hi to me.
I was all jumpy earlier because I was afraid a librarian would catch me looking at this site because of some of its naughty pics. Anyways, the stranger turned out to be
whyteyote He than was all happy and asked me if I was furry and such and I just gave him a blankly look and I was like, "uhhh, whats that?" lol
He than explain everything to me and I was created. When I was thinking of the animal that represents me, I always loved panthers and other big cats. I have always had dreams of seeing a black panther in the distance and always knew it was a sign. A funny thing also about my character is that I liked panthers even before I moved to Wyoming in 1998 and when I moved here to Powell, the high school mascot was of course the black panthers. lol So, in honor of going to that high school, I incorporate my character with deep Orange eyes because their colors were black and orange.
My furry name came to me about a month later after I understood what furry was all about. I was thinking of names and I thought the easiest name I could come up with was Chad Panther and I liked the sound of it, it had a nice ring to it.
Ever since than, my character develops and this May will mark my 5 year anniversary of being a furry and I wouldn't ever go back to being my boring human self. :P
Anyways, I went a little long on describing myself, but let me hear from you. How did you develop your characters and or names?

Anyways, I went a little long on describing myself, but let me hear from you. How did you develop your characters and or names?
1) My name: Mattias. My favorite video game character with a realistic name was Mattias Nilsson from Mercenaries (PS2), plus my real name is Matt, so it really works out.
2) My personality. I'm a fairly neutral person, so grey is one of the colors that fits me personally. The other is brown.
3) Cats. I am obsessed. Not as much as I used to be, but still pretty nuts about 'em. Except for those with the squished noses.
I also incorporated a few things about me into Mattias.
1) The clipped ear tip: represents the feral cat part of me. I like to be alone, but the more comfortable I am around someone, the more sociable I am.
2) The glasses: I am near sighted, so this is a very important piece that connects him to me. and whenever he takes his glasses off, he becomes more relaxed.
Anyways, I came to be a furry in a typical way: through interest in a cartoon character (more accurately a crush on one). It started when I was a weeee pup. It was when around TTA started. Yeah, I'm pretty sure a good portion of you people know who it was and where it's going. It was that purple skunkette that so many furs grew to like. Well, as the years gone by, I kinda fell out of it cuz the show came to an abrupt stop. However, in my JR High years, I took a stroll down memory lane on the internet, looking for screenshots of the show and such. Then I found a website that had a link to the infamous furry comic strip by EWS, Sabrina Online. I kept up with the comic strips, which I found to be quite enjoyable. Then I found yet another link that was Chris Fox's fanfiction site. And on the site, he had the Q&A of "What is a furry?" Upon reading through it, I discovered that I fit the bill for it.
And so the molding of my fursona began. Originally, I wanted to be a skunk like Her. Only after a while, I found that a skunk didn't really suit me. So, I went about looking for another species. Then after, I started to think "You know, I get along with dogs quite well. Plus there's a good amount of canine qualities I share. But I also have a few feline characteristics, such as me being a bit on the proud side at times, I like to sleep, and I drink milk like there's no tomorrow." It wasn't until I found a breed of dog that was said to also have feline characteristics. The Tibetan mastiff. It was proud like a cat, fun loving and loyal like a dog. Cute, yet badass looking. It was perfect for me. So, that's why I chose it. How the fiery theme came to be about... well, I noticed some roleplayers like to have special powers. And if there's one or two powers I wanted, it would be psionics and the power over fire. Pyrokinesis. And, well, tada! Here I am! :3
I've always thought of myself as feline. One of my earliest thoughts I could recall as a child (before I could really talk) was not understanding why all the other cats had tails, and I didn't. Hmmm... I also watched a lot of nature shows, and I always cheered for the predators to catch the prey. Every time.
Before I was "Kattywampus", I was Kat Dani D for years (kind of a stage name), which is just an abbreviation of my actual full name. A couple of years before "joining the fandom", I started to go by "Kattywampus" because I suck at technical drawing. My Technical Drawing teacher musta told me 11 times a day that my drawings looked cattywampus, and that I had to fix it. So I was like, "I'm just gonna start calling myself Kattywampus", the name spelling changed to reflect my real name.
I've drawn myself as a feline for quite some time. The 'character' Kattywampus is pretty much just me as a feline. I dyed my hair dark purple/indigo in college, and it looked awesome. So I started coloring my character's hair purple.
My tan fur is reflective of my tan skin. The gray stripes are very special.. The original color sample for my gray stripes is from the base color of someone who was my best friend and lover long ago. We discovered the fandom at the same time, and refined our 'fursonas' together. He was a gray kitty. I've always felt we were soulmates or something like that. I want him to always be a part of me, so I continue to use that gray color. I miss him....
My exact species... well, it sorta found me.
The official description of a Wampus described me perfectly...
The Wampus Cat is a small-framed female, half human half cougar, with golden yellow eyes, about 5'5" of Native American descent, living in West Virginia, or other parts of Appalachia...
Oooh, creepy. =^_^=
