The past week has been rough. I've had to counsel friends as they lost loved ones, faced some major stressors, etc. But you know, I'm in the mood to be happy tonight, dammit! So I thought...what better way to do that then to look at what I've done and see what I'm proud of.
I'm proud of my diploma. 4 years of high school that tore me down and rebuilt me more times than I care to count. I faced bully students, bully teachers, an insane girlfriend, the list goes on and on. Yet here I am, with the paperwork to prove that I made it out of that solvent and strong.
I'm proud of being on the town Fire Department. It seems simple and such, but it's really not. It's singularly one of the most important things I've ever done in my life...it's the continuation of a family legacy. I'm the 4th generation of my family to join this exact department, and I intend to stay in it until I'm old and grey and am better suited to doing paperwork than wearing turnout gear.
I'm proud of the career path I've chosen. Becoming a Paramedic is not a job everyone can do, and it's no secret that the money isn't overtly great. But it's more than just for the money, after all, and coming home having helped someone seems like a worthwhile career for me.
It might seem like a bit of an ego-stroking, but I kinda wanted to put out a positive vibe tonight, to let people know I'm not a wallowing ball of depressed dragon. Hope it inspires others to do something they can be proud of.
