I had a somewhat similar problem with mine, except it had a BSOD with an %hs is missing error code, it would only stay on and work while I was trying to fix it when I had the power cord in it.

My laptop did the same thing, but whenever I would try to turn it on, my Num Lock and Caps Lock lights would blink.. check to see if your laptop does the same thing. If it does, it'd narrow down what exactly is wrong with your laptop by giving you the error code.

Never fun! Hopefully it regenerates itself while it sits in solitude.

Sounds like a power board concern, sudden loss of power and no longer acting like it can read power from any source battery or wall? The good news is that on MOST PC portables the power board is a separate board from the motherboard. Mac portables and slimmer portables usually have the power board as built into the mother board.

Hope that helps, sometimes just unplugging it, removing the battery, and letting it sit for a while can help reset things!
