Linework
So while trying to work on my Nuzlocke (sorry for the delay, this page is giving me a major headache) I drew a really cute sketch of Piston that I'd like to make into a new ref sheet. His old one is pretty terrible and inaccurate. XD But my linework is atrocious. Like. seriously so. Anyone have any tips on digital lining? I feel like my sketches lose so much personality when I line them. :c

A lot of people I know don't do linework if they feel they're bad at it. All I can say is use small brushes and practice making lines straight, also mess around with adding weight to your image by thickening the lines in heavy or creased areas x: I am bad at explaining shit.

I think I just haven't found the line width that I really like yet. :c I know what I like in other peoples' art, I just can't figure out what's decent on my own. XD; I always liked thicker-looking lineart but I can never seem to figure it out myself. Weh! Definitely going to play with line weight in terms of proper thickness/thinness in certain areas.

Do you use SAI? The pen tool (different from the brush tool) is pretty handy.

I tried SAI but I've been using Photoshop for... six years now I think? XD We used it in art and graphic design classes when I was in high school. PS has a pen tool, too, but I've never liked it. I may give SAI another shot, though. I've heard good things.

Always looking for tips. XD I'm not the type to be super-active about improving their art but I do like to get better.

I know in Sai if you manipulate your options correctly that you can use a larger pen tip and it come our small without pressing to softly, and.making it larger etc, also using the stabilizer tool, I'm still working with my own, but I've seen some artists do AMAZING things once the figured it out

Yeah the stabilizer tool is what got me interested in SAI in the first place. XD I have very shaky hands so my lines end up pretty crappy if I don't do very fast strokes. I may have to take a day and sit down and try to get to know SAI.
