I dunno, I've met lots of very sweet furs, to be honest.
I have faith that you'll meet furs that you can proudly call your friends, hon!
Humanity is plagued by a disease, and that disease causes a secondary disease. The disease is described, ironically, on Lovefraud.com.
The manifestation of the disease is prevalence of Ego in the individual. A psychopath, those afflicted (the primary disease) lack empathy, lack moral reasoning, and gravitate towards positions of power as a result of the ego taking control of the mind. It is more sinister in those afflicted, sociopaths; for they have empathy and simply choose to ignore it and whatever moral reasoning they did developed. As a result, they too are consumed by ego.
Ego is what you see, ego is what lies, what cheats, and what seeks to take advantage.
But, the good news is, ego is very easy to recognize and thus avoid. And if you are intelligent and skilled enough, you can also control ego just as ego is controlled through mass media (hint; emotions are how you control ego, as ego and primitive emotions are linked.) Ego has certain traits that are easily recognized. Ego is the source of all addiction, it likes to be right, not correct, it likes to "win", it wants to be popular, and ego is very proud, to a fault. These can be used to identify ego. I look for things like smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee - addictive behaviors indicative of an ego controlling the mind, as both are unhealthy habits that do the body and mind no good.
Ego can be tamed, but it takes skill and most of all, understanding of what the ego is and how it controls the individual. Unfortunately I cannot refer you to any documentation of the ego, other than to suggest you watch "Revolver" about 50 times until you get it. It would also help to read lovefraud.com, and the wikipedia article on Kohlberg's Moral Development.
One thing I have come to believe, and which I find no evidence whatsoever to refute, is that ego is not capable of love, so someone who is controlled by their ego is incapable of being in live, just as one controlled by his ego is unsuitable for being in a society - which explains why modern industrialized society seems to be going so wrong - because we are not actually a society, but a collection of egos.
