LIIIIIIIES
This check is a lie. There's a catch somewhere. I just KNOW IT.
Apparently someone in the federal bureaucracy screwed up, which in turn fed wrong info to provincial, and in turn I got less money per month than I should have. And stuff.
To be honest it flew ten feet over my head when they explained it to me on the phone.
Either way, this money is staying put in my bank account. I'm not touching it.
I'm not believing it until I can fully confirm it. o_o
On a random tangent : Skittles, taste the rainbow!

I'm tryin to find a second job here in the states and it's a bitch. Best of luck to ya, I know it's tough.
Do they have ISA's in the USA? If you don't want to spend it, then open a high-interest savings account to stick it all into. It can earn you money until they ask for it back.
If you're worried, ask for confirmation in writing. Sounds like a very good rebate to me though.
This page here: http://web.ncf.ca/be960/reviews/savings.html
It seems to list the high interest savings accounts in Canada. The page is 10 months old, so secondary checks would be for the best.
I like the sound of ING Direct's one. Probably because it's a UK bank too, so it makes me feel safer. :P
3% interest rate, and a $13 bonus if you open the account with $100 or more.
Assuming you set up an automatic payment of an extra $5 a month too, their calculator says you'd have $1704.50 in one year. Don't think that includes the $13. $1717.89 if it does. $50 from deposits, 50 from the interest.

Presuming you went with an account that lets you put in small amounts, I set mine at the highest amount of what I could loose or mis-spend per month. About £20. Probably going to plunder it soon to wipe out my few remaining debts. :3
