Ober and Matilda- what is going to happen next?

Well, its that time again, and the story is about to get a bit more complicated. Partially out of respect for my viewers, and partially out of a need to know how to not completely screw the characters, I figured I would go ahead and ask the readers what it is they would like to see happen in Ober and Matilda's rather unconventional relationship. I certainly have a series of events in mind, but there are now a couple different ways the story can unfold at this point, ranging from possibly disappointing to maybe too much of a Hollywood ending, and I just want to see what everyone thinks before I finish this chapter, and set the tone for the next.
Its come a long way since I simply pulled these two out of the thin air.
The question you may be asking is: What kind of life does Ober lead outside Matilda's place, and how is that going to affect what happens next? I already know what I've written, so its not a mystery to me, but what does everyone here think is going to happen?

In terms of matildia, she's probably either retired, or perhaps she's just taking a long leave of absence. If she lost her joey as part of a accident, then she probably is sitting on a sizable settlement that she would clearly refuse to touch, but her big heart might allow her to give it away.
Either way she cares deeply for him, ober may not find out soon what happened, but he does love matildia, he will discover some day, but today I think it's just important for him to be with her, love her, and let her love him.
Maybe she should get a steel crib instead tho because naughty ober is naughty.
I don't know where all this came from, just sorta came to me, is probably wildly off.
Feeling neglected, I think Ober would make the first move to talk about what's been troubling Matilda. She may not want to talk about it, but if Ober is going to act as her joey he deserves to know, plus it would be good for her to get it off her chest.
Concerning Ober's day job, I'd imagine him working for a big corporation at a desk in a little cubicle all day. He'd wear a little button shirt and tie and have a suitcase and everything. It pays the bills and allows him to live comfortably, but not HAPPILY. He needs more to his life than what his job can offer.
Just what I imagined anyway.
matilda i would assume is retired, a work at home "mom", a daycare/babysitter owner or something like that. due to her own joey being lost if she was a daycare operator, she possibly has taken a leave of absence due to those circumstances.
It's unclear whether the Joey was kidnapped or has died. I beleive I read that you were planning to have him be kidnapped. Well, kidnapped or passed on, the idea of Ober doing a lil research and finding documentation pretaining to what happened, is pretty cool.
I can see learning about the joey doing a lot of things -- it could kill his relationship with Matilda, it could strengthen it if he proves he can be there for her. It could also have no effect. Or it could all just be a dream and he's still with Matildia, all diapered up and snuggling on her chest, sans even the existance of a Joey... or not. Matilda could have never existed and this could all be fantasy. It's your call :)
What type of character is Ober supposed to be? He strikes me as very kind, but you could easily go all out and have a dark ending where he does to the trouble of finding the Joey alive -- seeing that he's happy (or not caring either way) -- and never telling Matilda because of fear that it would destroy their relationship.
