Do you do this, too? Personally, I am not very good at recognizing faces - every time I go out, I hope to gawd the people I'm with are wearing something distinctively colored, or I end up wandering around lost and whimpering - so I find it much easier to remember people by their avatars. For the most part I have no idea how old or what race or gender the people I am talking to online are, and that doesn't actually bother me very much. I usually imagine most people as a. much younger than me and b. female, for whatever reason. Maybe it's because I have several younger sisters? Hard to say.
A forum I was on years ago had that as a thread topic, "how do you picture other members" and honestly, I didn't picture them at all, but when I thought about it I pictured them as a talking, cartoon version of their avatar. I remember one person said they pictured me a cultured, top hat and monocle wearing gentleman (and several other people agreed), which is pretty hilariously off base, but apparently it's because I used a lot of big words. Go figure. My avatar at the time, if I recall correctly, was a sock monkey.

I tend to get my own idea of what people look like, these sort of caricatures in my head, and when I finally do see what they look like, it almost never matches. I think I thought of you as looking like your character Simon for the longest time actually xD Before that it was Gryn. Now I actually have a face to go with you, and I still forget rofl
I know other people do this as well, one of my online friends imagines me to be Samus Aran. Then again I always see her as a colourful lolita character obsessed with things, haha.
How do you feel about your current cyberface? I think it suits you ;3
