Here's the thing. I'm gay. I'm a christian and I adore Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches. I know the guy, Truett Cathy, the owner of the Restaurant chain supports, Family Research Council, Exodus International, and the Marriage & Family Foundation which are all big organization that are against gay marriage. So if Truett Cathy does indeed donate to these organizations, does that mean as a gay man I should not eat at his restaurant?
What do you guys think?

Unless everyone is onboard, embargo's like not going to chick-fil-a simply will not succeed. Support your rights elsewhere, Warn, where they will be better recepted.
That said, I DO have a certain intolerance for intolerant people. Along with that, there is a certain...entertainment value in...expanding the minds of otherwise intolerant people, through...exposure to that which they are intolerant of. And seeing the looks on their faces. Based on this entertainment factor, I think it could be HIGHLY effective (or at least amusing) to have a "gay-in" at a Chick-Fil-A, in protest of their policies. In fact, I think I'm going to discuss this idea with a few individuals, and see if we can come up with something.
Just imagine the looks on the faces of the Chick-Fil-A managers, when a group of 10-15 people walks in, dressed VERY flamboyantly, and makes it clear through their actions (without being over-the-top) what they're about. But then they order a decent amount of food, sit down to eat like there's nothing unusual going on, and don't disrupt business, other than just being a bit of a spectacle. No one does enough to justify the group getting kicked out, but make it very obvious that it's a non-disruptive protest group.
*strokes his chin, pondering*
But I will miss those tasty chicken boobies... the only breasts I ever really enjoyed.
While their profits go to anti-gay movements, the political support towards politician is just another thing to look at. It's not a matter of who's young and up and coming. It follows along with whatever political ideas match their own. There's no point in sugarcoating it. Each chicken sandwich you eat does make a difference sadly and you go back for more. How many sandwiches a year do you eat from there? Even if you eat one ever 2 months, that can be $50 towards their profits and campaign, multiply that by how many others you take there. Since the ban against chic-a-fuck in Massachusetts, this business changed their tactics in how they open their mouths and secretly promote their hateful message through religiously bent organizations while saying that they changed their ways and promote equality. They are just as bad as the politicians in that action. Their business becomes in jeopardy, so they put a face on while telling people they changed their ways.
What you have to ask yourself is whether this will go on to 10 to 20 years or even more as long as these types of businesses continue to promote intolerance. Simply assuming that a person's right will be obtain through historical momentum is just ignorant to the fact that these people will also be around. If you take a back seat and just watch as the political fighting ensues, how could you possibly think that these thing happen on their own. It's not historical momentum.
If you read my "I'm gay" journal you'll get another story about a regiously right wing bend businessman who's son was gay. The son is dead, can't carry one the fight for equality. But this businessman has contributed toward the opposing affect. That was until I had half his staff walk out on him and he's folding his business. You still think one person can't make a difference? You buy a sandwich which the profits will go to their hate campaign and go back for more, even promote their cause with indifferent standing and say it doesn't put a dent in it. I only had to say his son was gay and remind him that his true legacy died in another political movement he also promoted. His business is folding in less than 3 months. No one wants to work for him. His wife already left him because of her son. All I had to do was show them my gay flare on my shoulder and walk out.
Or heaven forbid I get sadistic and actually buy stock in a company that does things like Chick-Fil-A, just so that when they do stupid stuff, I can have the pleasure of triggering their stock to dip when I sell them off for their petulance. Let them see the error of their ways when they lose money on Wall Street!
That one might be taking it a little far, but, the point is, If something like this bothers you, find ways to counteract the problem and even things out. The CEO will sooner or later be gone, and these wicked organizations will be exposed for what they are and shut down. In situations like these, there usually are ways to get the cake, or in this case tasty chicken, eat it guilt free too. Just gotta look around and see beyond just the local store itself.
The real question is, does it bother you. On a store by store basis, it's just regular everyday peeps who work there, and honestly, if you buy a chicken sandwich occasionally it's only a tiny fraction of the money you personally spend that goes to their organizations. Are you okay with that?
On a side note, I think there are websites online that'll show you how to make they're chicken sandwiches at home, down to the seasonings and cooking style for the chicken!
