"Original character do not steal!" group problem
13 years ago
For once in my life can I actually direct something? because I never got such an opportunity, and my college Isn't helping :/ I'm debating to drop out of this shity group and risk working solo or /try/ to get into another one were I can actually get work..
Because seriously.. this group? this girl with "Original character disorder" & her over exaggerated unrealistic character..
It's giving me cancer!
Just fucking look at the concept

About this charecter in a nutshell: desert alien creature with weird tri slit irises and black, white & purple fur (perfect colors for a desert creature to blend in and keep cool) has these wings on the front arms, can't fly though, she can glide and shit.. (really necessary) has dog like paws & is intelligent but can't speak, oh and heaps of other stupid shit!
the whole plan is to make it look "cute" in real life footage..
All the work I got to do is to make a working fur system, figured out the default maya fur system, found the dynamics break in renderman, no the college doesn't have any other fur systems, gave them 2 options for dynamics and long renders or no dynamics and short renders.
anyway, SHE wants to do all the work on making this character while me and the other gullible idiot sits back and does nothing.
there was so much shit I wanted to change about this creature thing.. But like every other stupid shit with original character disorder, "no no, I must keep it that way to match it with her back story!"
anyway.. I am stuck figuring out a plan B. because I know this group of 3 is going fail this assessment.
All I fought about doing is making something like the HalfLife2 scanners but something of my own design and merge it into real footage.. I just don't have any plans!
any ideas what I should do? :(

FA+

There are two other things I want to point out.
1. While I have created some species of my own I don't at the same time claim 100% originality on any of them. My Lortax characters are just inspired by dragons, P'Twilk are just raccoons with leathery ears and funny little insect antenna on their heads. Nobody in the world can claim a 100% original anything.
2. If an artist that you have working under you says you are over doing it, then you probably are. If it's a comic or an animation then people aren't going to notice micro details (like the slit eye's, unless you have a close up) so why bother spending so much time putting them in?
I am well aware there is no orthogonality and everything is inspired by something, but what I really meant is she is one of those people who do believe it's something unique, despite the making of a species is always inspired by mother nature.
and yeah it does look like something from avatar, first fought came to my head as well..
Hmm well if you change the colours at least it could be more of a desert creature.
Anyway, just try to make it to the deadline and get a grade that is good enough for passing. That is my advice ^^;
It is crappy advice, I know. I stilll cannot deal with such group work yet.
If it really gives you problems I suggest talking with the teacher.
That and the wings themselves look stupid. A big front pair on the legs and a wimpy tiny pair on the back? Looks more like the thing would would just fall off a cliff and die the moment it attempted to fly with that heavy body.
Oh that and with all that fur it beats me on how it doesn't dehydrate with either.
I mean, do your job to the best of your abilities along with trying to help with anything else, be the best team player you can and essentially start sh!t polishing. I mean, if your teacher asks who did the design of the creature, just point to that one girl saying "it's all her fault and we tried helping but she refused it".
Besides, this stuff will probably happen a lot
