High Everybody!
Pretty much anybody who's HEARD OF pot has heard the horror tales of weed being laced with all kinds of things. Usually, the story goes that some unsuspecting pot smoker unknowingly gets some laced weed, smokes it, and promptly goes insane from unexpected hallucinogen syndrome (*Note, may not be an actual condition) or something.
Setting aside situations like what happened to my friend (In which her "friend" -some friend, I say- KNOWINGLY gave her a joint laced with meth, without telling her. Because she "thought she would like it". Instead she ended up crawling around on the floor for an unknown period of time, thinking she was dying. >=c) or someone purposely trying to screw someone they have a grudge against I find this hard to swallow.
I used to believe it, no questions asked. Then I got to thinking about how silly it sounded, for a few reasons. Aren't most drugs more expensive than weed? Wouldn't that mean that dosing someone without their knowledge be a waste of money? Why give away free drugs (if they're unknown of, you can't really add that to the price)? If this is a new dealer, he wouldn't get much return business. If it's a regular dealer- why would he want to lose the trust of his customers?
The more I think about this, the more I think it might be a fairy tale. It's never happened to me and I certainly never heard of it happening to someone else. But, this is a discussion page, so I pass the blunt to you:
Does this actually happen? Has this happened to any of you? Or to a trustworthy source (friend, family member- someone you know personally)?
Or is it a bogeyman story like "Gateway Drug", entirely false/ridiculously rare and only meant to scare people away from trying weed?
***AS AN ASIDE:Help me out yall... My brother and I have been wracking our brains trying to figure out a song we liked- but all we can remember is the music video. It came out sometime around when Jack Johnson's Sitting, Waiting Wishing (2005). The band is in a forest, doing their thing surrounded by Snow White's friends (cute woodland creatures) and at one point in the song, the music picks up and it looks like someone turned off the sun. Then some animals get scary with sharp pointy teeth and start attacking each other. Thats about what we remember. Ring any bells? Check to see if this has been answered before you respond- I dont want the discussion spammed ^^ Thanks

On the other hand the story you told of your friend is common. I go to a lot of raves and festivals and have learned to ask what is in a pipe rather than just hitting what is passed to me. I know PCP is pretty commonly added to weed (intentionally by the user) as is cocaine(same case). I would suspect that one of those is more likely the culprit with your friend seeing as meth can not be smoked like that and needs to be freebased. The thinking she was going to die part makes me think PCP as it is a very heavy dissociative and the only drug (aside from DMT, which again is smoked via a different method than pot) that can be smoked and give a trip like experience.
On the other hand, there are contamination risks that have nothing to do with adulteration. For example, a few years ago me and several of my friends got EXTREMELY sick for weeks because of a batch going around that had mold on it. You also occasionally run the risk of smoking something that was contaminated with improper fertilizer, which again will make you sick, not trip out or feel further drugged.
Thanks, now I want some DMT :P
I won't do it at festivals/raves due to my belief that hallucinogens command a certain level of respect and also because it is an uncontrolled environment.
Though me and my mate are seriously considering a trip to South America for an ayahuasca excursion. We are both well aware of the fact you can avoid some of the *ahem* unpleasant effects by smoking DMT, but we also both want the full spiritual experience from it and couldn't imagine any better way to achieve that than being guided by someone who was literally raised to be a spiritual conduit for such experiences. So, i guess even if i end up being 35 or 36 before we can save up to do that, it will be a totally worthwhile first time!
If you are interested in learning more, Mycotopia has a lot of information on the subject. :) It sounds like a worthwhile experience!
I generally am leery of drugs with abbreviations as a name , mostly because I have an inherent distrust of man-made chemicals ( dont even take otc medicine if I can just muscle through the symptons) too much and all of them have initials for a name... Is DMT different than the others, because I hear a LOT of stoners vouching for it...
DMT stands for dimethyltryptamine. It is all natural, made from plant matter (vs LSD, made in a lab). When you are in REM sleep, you naturally produce DMT in the brain, which accounts for a lot of the insane dreams you get in that sleep phase. DMT is harvested from certain plants that have high concentrations, similar to mescaline in certain cacti, and it's processed down into a crystalline form that is vaporize-able or a tea form, which has to be taken with an MAOI inhibitor to be ingested properly otherwise you just digest it like any other beverage. If you google ayahuasca, this is the original, tribal shamanistic form of DMT. I've heard of the other forms made elsewhere referred to as pharmahuasca, using non-plant matter to do the same. If you process it as described in most TECs off Mycotopia, you get more like the original version.
It is non-habit forming, but very powerful. Again it's like the salvia you described, you can't walk into it not knowing what you are doing, and you should dose lower than what you'd think just in case it winds up being too powerful for you. A higher dose WILL cause a breakthrough and if you are not prepared for that, it has the possibility to be devastating. If you are a good smoker, I'd try the smoked form first; the tea form has a lot of safety requirements and can REALLY fuck you up if you do NOT follow the guidelines (because of the MAOI you have to take with it - if you're on certain meds they can interact and hospitalize you, blah blah medical jargon, google this). Diet is also a consideration, as certain foods taken with the MAOI and the tea can cause reactions and make you puke, feel awful, etc.
DMT is pretty much the ultimate in psychedelics.
Huh.. I'd always assumed because of it being a chemical name that it had been man-made. I definitely have some looking into to do.
Thanks!
I agree completely. Both about education, which I believe should be taught in high school, to a degree (Although it would -useful- to teach a teen how to roll a blunt properly, I think the facts about it's chemical make up, effects, and consequences should suffice for someone under 18.) Ignorance does no one any good in making an informed decision, and it's naive in the extreme to believe that such ignorance will stop someone from making a choice anyway.
And the dubious ground we're in because of bath salts and incenses (spice). When they start changing the chemical make up of something -just- to skirt the law, well, we're seeing proof from the damage to users that no good can come of it..
Exactly! Maybe if we weren't telling kids that pot is a gateway drug, that people cook their babies on LSD and that 1 out of 10 ecstasy pills is fatal they will make better informed decisions when the situation arises. It blows my mind that people don't realize that once a teen realizes that they have been lied to, they throw everything away as a lie. There are seriously dangerous drugs out there and telling kids that if they smoke pot they will kill someone (anyone else remember those PSAs?) then how are they going to believe that smoking crack or doing heroin can really very easily kill you either by O.D. or in the process of trying to get the drugs (shot while stealing a car, killed by a john).
As far as all of that is concerned, I really feel like the most dangerous drugs on the market these days are legal Bath salts, spice, alcohol and just about every prescription narcotic on the market. Between adderal (literally a step down from meth) filling the medicine cabinets in every school and OxyContin now being evaluated for use in children as young as young as 7 ( http://abcnews.go.com/Health/powerf.....4#.UEZ4eiLzbDc ) I am utterly baffled by the concept of a "war on drugs".
Its okay to kill- as long as you're shooting the "right" direction.
Its the same with drugs, its okay to do them, as long as you're doing the "right" ones.
HOW things ended up this way, or rather, how we, as a society, let it get this far and why we allow it to continue, are what baffles me.
In any case, you couldn't propose a swifter, more decisive solution to that (non existent) problem than legalization and regulation. As far as I know, laced liquor is no longer an issue anymore. But hey, that's just logic.
Seriously. Cutting it with anything from an herb cabinet or worse will just make people feel like shit and cause them to lose customers. Seems counter productive to me. =/
Lookin' like Myth Busted
I'm thrilled that that was the only time this has happened to me. Every other time, it's been solid.
So laced weed does exist, but even then it's usually sold as such and if you're buying crappy weed in the hood you may come across it. If you buy your weed like a normal person and not in nick and dime bags from some shady corner boy (you know, like actual good nug...) then you'll be absolutely fine.
Think about it, other drugs are probably worth more by themselves, why would drug dealers waste their money by sneakily lacing their product and not telling you? And like the old mother's tale goes about them trying to get you hooked on some other substance so you'll come back for more- if you've ever smoked weed before then you would know that something fishy was up and never go back to that same guy again. And it's not like it's even remotely possible to just get hooked on something the first time you take it. You accidentally get a high you weren't suspecting and chalk it up to a bad experience.
Sure, you could certainly bug out and have a bad time if you somehow smoked an unknown chemical that you weren't expecting. Even then most actual hallucinogens can't be smoked as the heat destroys the chemical structure of the drug so it's not like you're accidentally gonna get a head full of acid without knowing it. Most you'll probably come across is just PCP and even then you'd really have to be buying some crap weed to find this, nobody sprays down good bud with the stuff, and I highly doubt they wouldn't tell you when buying it.
So long story short, does laced weed exist? Of course it does. Are you ever going to really have to worry about it being a problem though? No way. Just be smart
Salvia is (described to me by friends who use LSD) an acid trip condensed into fifteen minutes. It is no joke.
The reason there are so few good reports with Salvia is because it isn't a dick-around party drug. It is WAY too powerful for that. And most of the people who try it seem to have -0- experience with hallucinogens and usually very little common sense. It seems to attract utter idiots and children (a quick youtube search will confirm this) who have done NO research and have NO idea what they're getting into. My guess is they see a video on youtube of someone tripping on it, think it HAS to be fake, and then go out and buy the strongest extract they can find (The raw plant has little effect on its own. Most Salvia is sold as an extract. You can have VERY powerful hallucinations at as low as 13x- and people like to get around 60x + for their FIRST TIME. This is analogous to someone smoking Super Silver Haze in a vaporizer for their first high- but a thousand times worse because you have to try EXTREMELY hard to keep "this is a drug not reality" in mind on Salvia. It WILL make you lose your grasp on what is real or not.)
-I am not lying, the first time I smoked it I watched my swimming pool get up and dace around with the trees in my yard before they all ran away together- and I believed it really happened until I started coming down. My friend (we took turns and spotted each other) was looking down at a "puddle" (there was none) at her feet and watched an airplane fly overhead (I looked up- and saw the airplane She never looked up and it was too high to make any noise we could hear. I still have no explanation for this).-
Salvia is an amazing drug, it can open your mind in amazing ways, especially if you use it for religious/shamanistic purposes. BUT it is NOT something to take lightly. If crystal meth is the loaded gun of drugs, Salvia is a buck knife. You cant overdose, because smoking after a couple hits becomes all but impossible, and I do not think it is harmful as a chemical compound- but if you don't have enough respect for it, it will cut you. Depending on your situation and location, it could get you killed.
I would recommend it ONLY to experienced drug users, who have well informed themselves and have a high level of respect for it. NO ONE else should take Salvia. EVER.
My first salvia experience was rather cryptic and will explain a little better for those who don't understand quite how strong it is. As I exhaled the smoke (30x) I got a pressure/melting sensation like I could feel gravity in it's entirety along with a warmth (which as it was happening felt like I had peed myself, I didn't). Everything went black and when I opened my eyes I was a single piece of popcorn. I had no recollection of ever being human and can't even say that I was aware of what a human was at the time. I was in a bag that was full of popcorn and every time the hand would come in to grab a piece all the other pieces of popcorn would scream and cry and panic and I just laughed each time because I though it was silly. I thought to myself "sure, it's going to hurt, and it'll be over, but that will happen eventually. At least they get to see what's outside the bag." and it was like that until I started to come back to reality. I opened my eyes and after a few minuets got my bearings as a human again.
It was intense and it was a little scary, but I came to terms with the concept of death with that trip.
Also, it's rather common to feel small in a salvia trip, I would imagine that alone makes it unpleasant for some people.
And yeah, my friend is pretty lucky he didn't fall down that damned chute. Jesus.
Sure, it cant kill you, and 99% of the time its all good- but to think that you could never even have a bad trip is just naive.
Its an illegal plant, if it isnt flushed properly before harvest (of fertilizers etc) or is transported improperly (I once had someone try to sell me some that REEKED of gasoline- because the guy they got it from hid the shit [b]in a full gas can[/i] just in case to fool drug dogs! I didn't buy it, but I'd bet if anyone did they had an unpleasant experience to say the least!) etc, it can become tainted accidentally, and that will effect things.
This is the closest Ive heard to the story being true...
SWIM gets muuuuch better stuff now
Thats always good!
That had been the only time I'd received a batch sprayed with another chemical let alone a cleaning agent. But it was from a dealer with a bad rep who was my last option on a desperate night. I'd been warned that he chopped "sprayed" weed but at the time I didn't think anything of it and couldn't honestly give a fuck.
But you should only go to someone you trust with your money and product. It's not an urban legend that you can get weed laced with anything but usually the only reason someone put's crack or cocaine in your weed is because it's a way to get you to come back for more. They want you addicted to their product but even still will only "sprinkle" some on, they're not investing a lot in you, ya know. THAT or they're just an asshole.
