I'm that way too. I'm slowly, methodically, coming out to more and more friends, but it's been over the course of 2 years, and it's still only a minority of people I know IRL outside the furry fandom. As for my parents, my mom knows, my dad probably knows, and both think furry is just those "cartoon animals". My mom even likes some of the clean art I have framed. x3

All my friends know about me being gay and my closest friends I've explained the furry fandom to. Hell, like 7 of my best friends are furries. My family doesn't know anything and thats the main thing I'm avoiding cuz I'm just not ready yet.

And I don't wanna deal with any drama in school. I doubt there would be where I go since there are already a good handful of open people, it's just I'm not trying to take any chances of it getting to my parentals. :I

Yeah. I wish I had more furfriends in IRL, but none of my friends ever went near it. They accept it tacitly, and a couple outright hate furs, but accept me just because we are friends. |: Unfortunately, despite living in Los Angeles, meeting other furs has been tough for me...I live away from the main areas of LA, only recently started going to furmeets with my mate, and otherwise, I have trouble socializing with people I don't know. Once I know someone, I have no problems, but if I don't have that link, I just have no clue where to begin.

I'm lucky enough to be free and clear of high school and college. Grad school means fewer people that I have to worry about, and especially, people who are at least sharing same interests as me.

Agreed, people you know in person don't have to know everything about you to be your friend and in a number of cases it can actually get in the way.

It does, but i've made it a goal to make my best friends people I can share most of my life with. :3

A good point, although it can be enough simply to know they'd be cool with it even if you don't wind up sharing any sensitive information with them -nod-
