NCSoft shutting down City of Heroes
After 7 years of a dedicated fanbase of a still-profitable City of Heroes franchise, NCSoft is closing down Paragon Studios and all development will cease on the game. As a roleplay social lifeline for me, I'm devastated that it will be gone by November 30th.
I'm very very sad about this.

If they couldn't have done a decent job, they should have outsourced the port or not freaking done one.
But this. Is sad sad news.
I didn't think they were this close to closing, friends were just telling me they've been releasing new powersets, water and nature.
Wow. I'm still really not sure what to say.
Now, Superhero MMO options are limited to Champions Online and DCU Online. ...And I might favor CO, myself, because I've tried DCUO...
...AND IT SUUUUUUUUCKS.
Sighs.. so are you gonna go to CO , Roxi?
That seems awfully fast...
Still sucks for you and everyone else who enjoyed the experience :/
They just added a new powerset not last week.
And now the ingame store is closed, so you can't buy anything.
I started playing shortly after that went live, and still log in once a month to beat up random bad guys...
backpackhealer shale be no more
but this is typical, I find something I like and they stop carrying it.
I wish Kickstarters and petitions luck; I don't think NCSoft is going to let anyone have the game.
I remember it before it first opened... when my friend was one of the Beta Testers.
I thought that game would never end...
its incredibly saddening

Other rumors are that they're sucking up the resources to boost Guild Wars 2.
Me? I think it's because City wasn't "theirs". Aion, Trek, all of those, that was created under NC's watch. City already existed, NCSoft stepped in and bought when Paragon Studios split off from Cryptic, and as foolish and self-destructive a move as it is, there's a certain hard-dying aspect to Asian corporate mentalities (especially in game/entertainment companies) that "Our way and our products are better, no matter what the consumer base and financial reports state". I'm not trying to be racist, honestly, but I've just read SO MANY stories of people working for companies whose HQ is in Japan or Korea that basically state the same thing..
Blah. City will be missed, not for the game (though it is awesome) and not for the hours spent playing (they were not wasted) but for the COMMUNITY. The fans, the PLAYERS of that game, were a family, it's HONESTLY a group I've never seen the like of anywhere on the internet.
It's all a Nemesis plot!
If your looking for an alternative, have you considered The Secret World? The game has many cool quest types with their own fun mechanics. The game doesn't have classes, so you can build a healer, and then at any time switch to DPS or switch to tank. (assuming you've built those decks)
Truthfully it's the most fun i've had in a MMO to date.
So is this a financial move or a "we need those servers for Guild Wars 2" move? It sucks either way.
