Graphic card problems / also, I have steam now

So I decided to try to use at least Terraria, since Minecraft will not work with my CPU (technological waste computer is waste).
I actually had to use Steam for it, something I was totally against since I don't get the use of Steam for games. LOL
Now, Terraria does not work.
This problem seems to do with my graphic card (no surprise, its a really old graphic card from 2003...yes, 2003), and I had been trying to update the drivers/controllers. So far, no luck and I almost broke my OS.
Maybe someone can help me out?
Oh, also: Steam name is "badgerlicious". In case you want to add me or something. I really don't get the use of Steam :X

*hugs* Sorry that even legitimate Terraria is still not working for you. Computer problems can be hard to diagnose. :X
