I don't have a 360 myself, but it's better that you follow the advices of fixing it and then decide if keep enjoying the console or give it to someone right away (and to get ready for complains if the other gets the red circle).
I heard it could also be overheating issues. If it's not, move your XBox into a well ventilated area.
I don't know what Microsoft does to its products, but the 360 could be so much more fun and superior to the Wii if it wouldn't constanttly die for no apperant reason.

My friend has gone through 2 xboxs and several destroyed games. Not only is there this red ring of death thing, but if you move the console even slightly while its on, it'll ravage your game.
