The Dog and the Shadow

It must be emphasized that:
We are not an official Church of Satan group. We are not here on behalf of the Church of Satan. We are not a "Satanic Community."
We are a group on FurAffinity that are made up of individuals who follow the Church of Satan and the works of Anton LaVey.
The Dog and the Shadow
”It happened that a dog had a piece of meat and was carrying it home in his mouth to eat it in peace. Now on his way home he had to cross a plank lying across a running brook. As he crossed, he looked down and saw his own shadow reflected in the waters beneath. Thinking it was another dog with another piece of meat, he made up his mind to have that also. So he made a snap at the shadow in the water, but as he opened his mouth the piece of meat fell out, dropped into the water and was never seen more.”
BEWARE LEST YOU LOSE THE SUBSTANCE BY GRASPING AT THE SHADOW.
Envy is one of the Seven Deadly Sins, the things that fuel all human ambition. Without envy, we would have little to no drive to attain bigger and better things. For this reason, Satanists embrace envy wholeheartedly. At first glance, it would appear that this particular fable of Aesop’s speaks against the envious mindset, but look again: the hunk of meat the dog saw in the water was nothing but a shadow! The dog attempted to obtain something insubstantial and unattainable, and he lost everything he had as a result.
This scenario is why Anton LaVey penned the the second Satanic Statement: “Satan represents vital existence, instead of spiritual pipe dreams!” It is normal to have aspirations, and commendable to follow through with them. But the Satanist knows to keep his aspirations in check. There are goals that simply cannot be attained, either due to personal handicaps or the boundaries of reality.
This is why, as a Satanist, people who aspire to change the world puzzle me. Human nature is a constant; history is cyclic; the world turns the way it always has. Life has dealt you a hand: it is best to play those cards within your boundaries for optimal results, instead of throwing them to the wind and hoping for the best.
"Everyone is trying to accomplish something big, not realizing that life is made up of little things." - Frank Howard Clark
DO NOT REACH FOR THE UNATTAINABLE. RECOGNIZE YOUR BOUNDARIES AND MAKE THE BEST OF THEM.

"I think its going outside boundaries that got us into space!"

"Life's made up of the little things, which is why instead of trying to change the world for all animals, I'm going to change one animal's world at a time."

"I believe that things like greed and envy are good until it causes you to infringe on the rights of others."

I disagree that human nature is a constant. What is perceived as 'natural' is actually the current societal conditions that govern a people's mindset. That's how I see it.
