My dog... is dead... R.I.P., Ozzy.... :'(
13 years ago
General
He was in too much pain... His stomach bloated from the tumor, his legs weak from atrophy, his energy depleted by anemia, his breath shallow and fast, his stomach gurgling...
We couldn't bear it. We couldn't let him endure another day like that. How could anybody have a good night's sleep when you're struggling to breathe?
...
We took him to the park. It was a bright, sunny summer day... not too hot, not windy.... a nice day.
We hung out in the grass. He didn't run. He just sat there, panting happily... just glad to be part of the pack. We showered him with attention and hugs and pets all day.
We fed him stewed roast beef from the crock pot. He loved it.... I even gave him some KFC... And let him have the skin he always coveted whenever I brought it home. We loved him, we cried a lot.
When we got home, he took a nap, and wagged his tail. He could barely breathe at all. He occasionally grunted with pain. We couldn't let him suffer anymore.
We took him to the vet.
They tried to find a vein to stick the needle in. But he was so anemic that his veins were constricted and virtually invisible. Eventually we gave up... and the vet gave him a direct anesthetic... a massive dose, with an equal amount of pain killers.
We stayed with him for 20 minutes until he was out. And when he was finally completely asleep and numb... the doctor injected a needle directly into his heart.... and it stopped. We went outside for that part... But around the exact same time that the doctor did this, we saw a flock of pigeons suddenly fly from the rooftop....... almost as if they were spooked by a dog chasing them.
... Goodbye, Ozzy...... We'll meet again someday... Until then, I know that he'll wait for me by the stairway to heaven... just like he always used to wait at the staircase for me whenever I left.

But do not just mourn his loss. Celebrate his life, and the happiness he brought to yours.
May he rest in peace.
Howl! O Wolves! A brother goes on, tonight!

No terrible tumors yet, but his sight is markedly gone and it seems it might be getting a bit deaf.
His rear joints are also stiff and uncooperative, and his balance is very bad. The games we played ten years ago and mere memories now.
But our live together is full with memories, good and a few bad.
And when it comes time, I shall sing him home as well.
My oldest is a 14yo Old English sheepdog that we rescued ten years ago, and you can really tell he's getting older. My youngest is a 3yo Old English, and I love them both very very much. I can't bear to be without either of them. I don't know what I'm gonna do soon, losing Lars, our eldest.
I'm really really sorry. I wish I could do something for you.
My condolences, hun. *hugs*
It sucks losing a loved one.
I remember when my dog Tobey died... died of the exact same thing...
I feel for you.
Ditto. *puts on a hat so he can take it off in respect*
By the way, my RL name happens to be Beau. Weird coincidence.
Well done. You honoured your family well.... and he was family.
Pet mortality is the worst thing about owning one.
It crushes me every time it happens to one of my own. So much so that after my current pets are gone I will make every attempt to avoid getting more. I can't bear it any more.
My dog Emma was having kidney failure from her cushings disease. Even if I had all the money in the world to have her on doggy dialysis, I wouldn't have wanted her to go through all that. ;~;
A dog..... He thinks it's just torture for no reason. :'(
God... damn that tumor... That putrid, fucking VAMPIRE, sucking out his blood and his LIFE...
I've been there myself
My.prayers go out to you and Ozzy.
Sorry to hear that, baby. Doggy heaven get. It's a good thing we all went through this so we can share it and mend quicker...
I bet Ozzy was amazing. Cherish those memories. ^^
*hugs*
I lost many good partners and I pray your sorrow ebbs away an know you had a great companion with you.
Turn that sorrow into strength and stay your course!
Had put down 4 of my dogs due to displacia, lost 1 to a snake and the other to a heatstroke.
I think the worst part was the fact that I had to burry Moti...
It rained so hard that day yet this crane just stayed next to me the whole time...
