That's okay! Being a waiter, I've learned that I hate everyone! Apparently it's a common happening.

I always want to be good to waiters since I know they've got to hate all their customers. Other than tips and being nice and not trying to make bullshit jokes, what's something good to do / not do?

Haha, we don't hate our customers. We have customers we hate, and customers we love. I love most of my customers and they love me! (Some people ask for me by name, and I feel so awesome.)

If you wanna get on our good sides, clean up, at least a little bit, after you eat. It's so stupid how messy people can be.

IF you don't clean up, then leave a nice tip. This is what tips mean to ME as a waiter:

<18% = You suck and I hate you
18-20% = The food was good
21%> = You're awesome and I love you please have my babies

Another really nice thing to do is not bring babies/kids. FUCK I HATE kids. They're so loud, so messy, especially babies. Parents th-- I'm ranting, sorry!

Treat your waiter as an actual human being, they're more than just food-bringers!

From my work in service it seems like, yeah, be friendly and treat workers as humans, but DON'T try to pretend like we're best friends. That was always my major annoyance. I always assumed waiters had it even worse.

I've found tipping to vary depending on location. Like, your range sounds like California. Around here it's more like, <10% sucks, 15% is good. >15% is bonus.

I go out to eat 2 or 3 times a year though and almost never at the same place. So. I guess I could get away with never tipping at all.

I always clean up my spot though as much as possible. :)

I'm actually in South Florida, haha.

Please don't not tip! People will think of you as That-Guy-Who-Doesn't-Tip, and they will remember you, I promise. I remember everybody who didn't tip me (which has been nobody so far but whatever!)

Tips are basically how we make money! Technically, I make $4.25 an hour. ._.

I always tip maximum suggestion. If iI do not tip; I am using someone else's money.

Oh also if you're at a restaurant and they have nice napkins (the ones that you aren't allowed to take home with you) don't dump it in the food. It's gross to have to pick it up and touch it. :/

Wh- why are you scared of everyone? What happened? Please, no one wants to hurt you here and the hugs are reassurance, knowing we are here for you.
